Logan Spooner, IT

On behalf of the Honors College, I want to extend gratitude and appreciation to Logan. I was impressed with Logan's quick response to the pending service ticket. It took additional Tech involvement to resolve the issue, and Logan was patient and worked through it. Logan stayed quite a while to resolve the issue, addressed each of our concerns, and took the time to tell me the potential causes of the problem. Logan offered some technical guidance should the issue pop back up, and I am grateful for that extra care. Logan, thank you for your patience and for taking care of our issues before students come back to campus.

Suzanne Ewing, Office of Professional and Community Education

Through Valdosta State University's Learning in Retirement Program, Suzanne Ewing does a fantastic job of empowering area residents 50 years of age and older to embrace lifelong learning, enhance their personal development, expand their social circle, and have some fun along the way. She is easy to work with and eager to accept opportunities to discuss the work she does with community members and the news media. She did a radio interview with Bill Tidwell from WAFT Radio 101.1 today, which will certainly support her efforts to introduce new people to the opportunities available to them through the LIR program.

Tera Ray, Odum Library

Ms. Tera provided the Marriage and Family Therapy students with assistance on how to access the resources provided by the school's library. Tera gave the class step-by-step visual instructions on how to use different databases provided by the school to retrieve more information and articles for research purposes. Tera's enthusiasm and detailed demonstrations kept the class engaged and made the educational experience a pleasant one. We kindly appreciate her work.

Bryan Fitzgerald, CELT

This past summer and fall, I participated in the Online Teaching Certificate course hosted by the CELT Center and taught by Bryan FitzGerald. Bryan was incredibly helpful in explaining the tools available online and specifically in BlazeView. He provided a wonderful atmosphere to learn with fellow faculty from around campus. These workshops were educational, collaborative, and inspiring. Thank you, Bryan.

Neal Culbreth, Student Financial Services

He made me aware of an undelivered financial aid check and is working to reissue a new one. For our family, every cent counts, and we would not have known if he didn't bring it to our attention.  We are thankful for his attention and kindness to reach out and help us in this situation. So many thanks to Mr. Culbreth.

Markaysa Robinson, IT

I am an online student and on the first day of classes, my school-issued laptop was stuck in an update. At 8 am on the very first day of classes, I called Markaysa panicking. I explained my issue to her in a very major way, and she broke it down for me and explained how she was going to fix my computer remotely so that I could complete my work for the day. She did just that and had the most pleasant attitude the whole time.  Markaysa empowered me, and I appreciate that.

Kennesha McBride, Housing & Residence Life

Ms. Kennesha McBride did exceptional service by working with a deaf student living on campus. The student doesn't always have her interpreter and has been struggling to understand and communicate well with many offices on campus, including our own. Kennesha assisted the student by utilizing her ASL skills (that she learned here at VSU by the way) in order to help sign and communicate with the student so she could best understand her next steps and what she needed. The student had been very frustrated, but with Kennesha's help, they have been able to get assistance and know that someone is looking out for them. Go Kennesha! This was impressive work and going above and beyond to help a student.

Lizbeth Heath, Modern & Classical Languages

Dr. Heath truly had faith in me during her online course that I had taken a couple of semesters ago. Her impact from that course has stuck with me to this day. I always thought that I would never understand Spanish. With a little bit of practice and some motivation, you can learn another language even if you are not fully fluent. I am currently taking a 3000 level Spanish course and her inspiration is still ringing in my head to keep trying and don't give up. I wanted to make sure she gets the recognition that she deserves! Thank you, Dr. Heath, for the words of advice and inspiration. Todo es posible con un poco de paciencia y un poco de motivación.

Hank Rion, Theatre Productions

Director Hank has truly taught me so much in just the production of "Bright Star" and it will forever impact my life. I want to thank him for giving me a chance! Being a non-theatre major performing in a production is a bit intimidating, and I truly didn't feel that I had the ability that other performers had. But Hank encouraged me and guided me and was an amazing director and I just want to thank him for everything. He has motivated me to keep going and to achieve the unbelievable. I am looking forward to my future career and opportunities. I will always remember him, Professor Sarah Arnett, Professor Joe Mason, and the cast of Bright Star for having an amazing impact on my life!

Tanja Rouse, Financial Aid

Tanja recently helped me with a multitude of questions about some paperwork. She really went above and beyond to help with even the smallest details and was very supportive. She is also very kind as she even helped me with questions that were outside of her purview. She was a pleasure to work with.

Susan Jones, Plant Services

Susan went out of her way to make sure I was connected to the right people to get things settled for the Open House. Thank you, Susan. Valdosta State University is successful at meeting our current and future students' needs because of people like you.

Adrian Taylor, IT

Adrian helped out the MFT department with the ViewSonic in our classroom. He was knowledgeable and kind and got everything set up for us in a timely manner. We appreciate him taking the time to come out and help us with this!

Adrian Taylor, IT

We were having connection issues with a piece of technology. I was in need of a specific type of adapter. Not only did Adrian have one in stock that he lent us, but he rushed it over first thing because I was in class all day and was not going to have a chance to go get it from him. He is a gem! His thoughtfulness and willingness to go above and beyond are extremely appreciated. Thank you, Adrian!

Dr. Ophelie Desmet, Human Services

In my year of working with Dr. Desmet, I have been constantly motivated and encouraged to think outside the box. Dr. Desmet is one of the most important people in my life. Dr. Desmet is very comforting and a great supervisor. Her level of detail inspires me to work to impress her. From the first day of class, Dr. Desmet regularly showed that she cared about her students and she taught in a way that made the class material relatable. She always used real-world examples in class. In the lab, Dr.Desmet was the best boss I ever had. She gave constructive criticism on my work, and she would inspire creativity with her feedback. Meeting Dr. Desmet has not only opened my eyes to the outside professional world but also to the untouched potential I didn’t know I had.

Sgt. Ed Register, University Police Department

I would like to take a moment and recognize the kindness of one of our University Police officers. Due to a reassignment of office locations, I found myself clearing my old office space which included the relocation of a student-sized refrigerator. As I realized the refrigerator would be more than I could handle alone I looked around for help.  I spotted Sgt. Ed Register and requested his assistance. He not only agreed to help but lifted the refrigerator completely on his own and loaded it into the auto for me. Thank you so much, Sgt. Register. You are a stellar person and it is truly appreciated.

Yvonne Landers, VPFA & Budgeting Services

Thank you, Yvonne Landers, for your assistance in making my move from one office to another far easier. Your offer to use your auto to move a large appliance was so welcome and I could not have transported it by myself. You are an absolute asset to VSU.  Again, thank you.

Katelyn Gomez, Library

You've been doing a great job. You're so talented at staying flexible on any project, which helps everyone on the team. I've seen you grow so much in your role since starting here. Thank you for your hard work, Katelyn! Keep up the good work!

Marsha Dukes, eLearning

Marsha was excellent! She provided invaluable feedback on how to troubleshoot technical problems and resolved the BlazeVIEW issue in a matter of minutes. Thanks for all your help!

Grayson Wall, IT

I had a problem with One drive communicating with One note. Grayson was able to fix the problem very quickly and showed me exactly how he did it.

Emily Rogers, Library

Professor Rogers knows the complex workings of government documents. A student was mired in indexes, and could not find the data he needed for success.  Rogers provided excellent guidance and allowed the student to shine. This student is working with our Polish partners at the University of Gdansk.  Please thank Professor Rogers for helping us increase good relations across the Atlantic.

Cathy Sowa, IT

In the time that I have known Ms. Cathy, she has attended multiple presentations I have had, provided invaluable feedback, and been a very approachable and sweet lady to interact with and get to know! I wanted to recognize her going above and beyond to help me, and others, in ways that are beyond what is required of her. I would like her to know that her actions and help are sincerely appreciated by me and others!

Michele Blankenship, College of Nursing and Health Sciences

When a colleague was out during the nursing student’s first skills check-off, she jumped right in to help.  She never fails to go above and beyond for our students. Thank you so much, Dr. Blankenship!

Dr. Heidi Gonzalez, College of Nursing and Health Sciences

Even though she is not assigned to the course, she graciously volunteered to help with skills check-offs.  She did a fantastic job and the students had a wonderful experience. Thank you so much, Dr. Gonzalez!

Dr. Ophelie Desmet, Human Services

As a teacher, Dr. Desmet has inspired me to learn more about the psychology of our students to better understand how students think and how I can be a better teacher. Her level of compassion for her students is astounding and can be seen daily through her lectures and feedback on assignments. She has made my time at Valdosta State University worthwhile, and I am so thankful for having had the opportunity to work with such an extraordinary person.

Kara Exum, Odum Library

Kara was called to assist a patron having a medical emergency in one of the Odum Library study rooms. Upon finding a student in distress, she provided care and comfort to the student while awaiting emergency services. Kara was willing to step outside of her comfort zone to help one of our students in need. Thank you for your service to our students.

Markaysa Robinson, IT

I am an online student and my fear of this program was that I couldn't keep up with technology. On the first Tuesday of classes, my personal laptop died, and I had an assignment due that Friday. I contacted my advisor, and she told me to submit a request and CC'd Markaysa on the response. I actually emailed Markaysa to explain that I needed something fast and wanted to stress that I could fall behind if not. I know it should not have been her concern that my personal device died, but she cared. Since it was before 12 that day, she told me that she would hurry and prep a laptop for me and overnight it to me that day. Sure enough, on Wednesday the laptop was delivered to my front door.

Dr. Kayleen Marble, Education

When it comes to assignments, she provides video, as well as a written overview/clarification to students. I find this tremendously helpful as I work through the assignments for each task. Dr. Marble also provides timely feedback, which is greatly appreciated. I look forward to the remainder of the semester with Dr. Marble leading the way!

Cecilia Furey, College of Nursing and Health Sciences

Cecilia went above and beyond her duties by expeditiously assisting with the final edits for the graduate student handbook and final site evaluation documents. We are so thankful for her assistance on these projects and her support always for our program, faculty, and students!

Rufus Freeman, COEHS Advising Center

He gave me great advice on how I should take the next semester seriously and the things I need to do to be successful in the following years.

Stephanie Bland, Accounting & Procurement

Stephanie has been so helpful to me as I've dealt with submitting a few different expense reports. She is so patient and understanding and has gone out of her way to help me correct a couple of reports that were done incorrectly.

Justin Wiese, Printing Services

I am a first-time user of the print services and Justin Wiese made the experience simple and easy.  Not only did he get my new user account set up quickly, but he was also able to expedite my order. Justin went above and beyond and called me after the request was submitted to offer a more efficient way for me to receive my copies. His efforts of putting the copies in "packets" saved our team time. Justin also got the order done 2 days before the requested deadline. Thank you for making my request a priority and for making the entire process seamless. You are appreciated!

Lisa Harken, Odum Library

I needed help on an inventory project in Odum Library. Lisa has been working on the inventory project for less than 2 weeks and has inventoried almost 600 bound journals and micromaterials. This project is time intensive, dusty, and requires great attention to detail. I am eternally grateful for her enthusiasm, knowledge, and kindness. I believe with her help we can finish this project within the year or next year.

Eugene Asola, Teacher Education

I came to you for help, and you helped me to be able to get my classes for this semester and for that I am truly thankful.

Rosalyn Martinez, CAMP Office

Thank you so much for your continued support and for all of the support you provide to your students. You put so much effort and care into what you do, and it shows. Thank you for being awesome!

Scott Benke, Communication Arts

Scott Benke went above and beyond during the South Georgia Film Festival. He helped during the events at the Student Union to make sure films played as they were supposed to, and he also kept things running Friday night at the Valdosta Mall during the rain and the wind. Scott Benke is an invaluable part of our program.

Jonmichael Seibert, Mass Media

Jonmichael Seibert volunteered his time this weekend during the South Georgia Film Festival. He worked with students and helped visiting filmmakers. As a first-year instructor, Jonmichael went out of his way to help our students' event be a huge success. He attended the student meetings over the last two months and helped make sure those attending the festival had a great experience.

Joe Culverhouse, Mass Media

Joe Culverhouse gave up his time to help our students and those in attendance enjoy the South Georgia Film Festival. Joe worked with Scott Benke and Jonmichael Siebert to make sure films played, sound worked, and visiting filmmakers were taken care of. Thank you!

New Media Services

Kyle Culpepper and his entire team at the New Media Center were incredibly helpful in making this year's South Georgia Film Festival a success. This year, we had 60 posters printed for display to visiting filmmakers. That is a huge amount of work that has a lasting impact on visitors and students. Thank you, New Media Center!

Amanda Mustic, Admissions Office

Thank you for coming out Saturday to visit high school students during the South Georgia Film Festival.  We appreciate having the Admissions office available to talk about VSU and give tours if needed.

Justin Wiese, Printing Services

Thank you to Justin and the entire print shop for helping make the South Georgia Film Festival a success. Along with printing the badges for all of the attendees and filmmakers, Justin helped us make yard signs for the festival which were seen all across Valdosta. Every year, we depend on the hard work of the folks in the Print shop to make the film festival a success - and they did another great job!

Bridget Smalls, Theatre Productions

Thank you to Bridget Smalls for doing a tremendous job helping with this year's South Georgia Film Festival.  Bridget stepped up and was so supportive as we worked to pull off our biggest event of the year. Bridget helped with purchases and promotion of the event.

John Evan Fondren, Student Life

I so appreciate Evan Fondren for all he does for so many students and visitors. Every year, the South Georgia Film Festival depends on access to the Student Union facility to showcase films, hold panels, and facilitate the experiences of visiting filmmakers and attendees from across the region. Short of the SGFF staff itself, no one person touches more of the event than Evan Fondren. Not only did he and his staff provide access to the Heritage Room Thursday night so our students to transport posters, food, and gift bags over to the Union, he made himself available Saturday to help troubleshoot issues with the computers, projectors, and sound systems. We would not be to make this happen without the Student Union and Evan Fondren.

Jessica Pope, Strategic Communications and Marketing

As much as the South Georgia Film Festival is an event for the students of Valdosta State University, it is about reflecting to the community how VSU is an engine of innovation and accomplishment. This year, Jessica Pope produced wonderful interviews and feature stories about the 6 VSU students and alumni participating in the film festival. She and her office reached out to alumni Ben Strickland, Lucas Hicks, Brock Drury, and Levi Johnson, along with current students Bo Greene and Emily Sanchez, and produced these stories that helped validate what we do and celebrate these VSU students. Emily Sanchez told me how having a filmmaker approach her during the festival to say "You're Emily Sanchez - I read about you" made all the difference in the world. Thank you, Jessica!

Nicholaus Clinite, IT

Nicholaus is an absolute joy to work with. He is quick to act, thorough, and hard-working. He has been integral in the process of automating data exports to set up automated processes. Not only is he patient in working with others but very insightful about back-end processes. I cannot thank him enough for his help and hard work.

Kytt Everdeen Moore, Odom Library

Kytt was a tremendous help during a research appointment for my dissertation. She provided multiple ways to search for the applicable content and to simplify the process. The dissertation process is such a grueling task, it is refreshing when staff like Kytt are going out of their way to show they care. She represents what Valdosta should look for in an employee.

Donnell Grady, Warehouse

I picked up a bunch of newspaper rolls for the printmaking studio and Grady helped me carry them into the storage closet. He already carries enough heavy boxes delivering supplies so this was above and beyond! Thank you so much!

Bryson Williams, VPFA & Budgeting Services

Bryson provided a custom spreadsheet detailing information for a project I was working on. He completed the extra detailed spreadsheet and got it to me the same day. This was exceptional service. He was very approachable and made the whole interaction very easy.  He's a great representative of VSU and Financial Services.

Tera Ray, Odum Library

Tera went out of her way to ensure that I received a copy of the article for links that I could not open. She was kind and understood me and never made me feel bad for needing help.

Nicole Mitchell, Accounting & Procurement

Her skills and efficiency in opening each month are amazing! I would like to express my wholehearted thanks for all the great work she does. Nicole, you consistently demonstrate your talents and are an integral part of the Finance and Administration Team.

Janet Wade, University Advancement

Janet is amazing! I was struggling with inputting a fairly large office order and requested Janet's help. Janet immediately offered to input the order for me even though she has a ton of work that she needs to get finished every day. She must be hiding her cape somewhere because to me she is a real superhero!

Amber Porter, College of the Arts

I am very grateful to her and her student assistants.

Raymond Sable, Plant

I am very grateful to Raymond Sable for keeping me apprised and in touch with campus staff during the days leading to the large SERNATS event I hosted in Powell Hall and the Fine Arts Building during Spring break. His help, especially during the break when many people were not on campus, was so appreciated. I am thrilled to be surrounded by such amazing staff on our campus. This experience really was like a family banding together with the goal of student success. Go Blazers!

Evan Fondren, Student Union Operating

I really want to thank Evan for being so helpful and supportive leading up to and during the Counselors Collaborative Conference. I had a lot of not-so-typical tech requirements and he went above and beyond getting me set up with the best room for what I was working with. He put a lot of thought and consideration into the whole process and really just put me at ease. I really appreciated it!

Paul Leavy, Strategic Communications and Marketing

We've had the pleasure of working with Paul on multiple occasions. The way he interacts with others is always pleasant and overall he has a great attitude when he visits us. In March, he took photos of our Undergraduate Interns and made the entire process so simple. He went out of his way to quickly resize the photos afterward so we could post them on our website. We appreciate all that Paul has done for our program and always look forward to working with him!

Jessica Pope, Strategic Communications and Marketing

Jessica has been amazing to work with this semester. We are thankful for her ideas to help our program advertise and recruit new students. In February, she worked closely with us to advertise our first virtual Open House and we are very proud of the results of that effort. We are very much looking forward to our continued work together!

Mary Elizabeth Morton, New Media Center

I am a retired VSU faculty member and Mary Elizabeth has helped me three different times. She transferred music from various sources onto CDs and made multiple copies. She was very knowledgeable about her tasks even though they were complicated and I am a perfectionist. Also, she has a very pleasant personality. It has been my pleasure to work with her. I thank her for her help and appreciate her as a person.

Lynn Darsey, Auxiliary Services

I had some concerns regarding my cap and gown, and Mrs. Darsey got back to me on my concern the same day I requested to speak with her. She listened to my concern and made sure that she got in touch with me the very next day. As a graduating senior her excellent service made me feel like my voice was being heard.

Brian Roberts, Student Union Operating

Brian has always gone above and beyond in caring for his student employees. He always makes sure that his student workers are taken care of and helps them complete their challenging tasks each and every day. His work often goes unnoticed by others. I truly see how hard he works and how dedicated he is to VSU. Thanks for always being my foundation and someone I can always go to for advice, help, and guidance. It truly does mean a lot, and you deserve to be recognized for your dedication. Thanks for being an amazing boss.

Kaleena Stasiak, Art & Design

Kaleena designed a graphic for tote bags for Art & Design recruitment events and continues to print tote bags whenever the department needs them for recruitment, as something that prospective students take away with them. They have become sought-after items at VSU's Open Houses, with students outside Art & Design asking where they can get them. Kaleena prints all of the toes on her own in VSU's printmaking studio.

Quinncy Thomas, IT

Quinncy Thomas went above and beyond his duties to assist HR in a time of need. A department was experiencing a reorganization and HR had various search committees set up throughout the University Center conference room in the month of March. Quinncy not only prepared a special setup to ensure we had the ability to record the sessions, but he personally came to each room and worked with the Search chair so there would be no technical issues. He located keys to unlock rooms and he provided his personal cell number to ensure we were successful.  Thank you for taking extra care and attention during a challenging time. Your efforts were appreciated.

Honey Coppage, Academic Affairs

Honey helped me/us push through a form related to professional development. Her help is greatly appreciated. She assisted both the faculty member and the department head with the process.

We tried what we knew to do and came up short. We called eLearning in a panic and got Britt on the phone. She was immediately available and helped us troubleshoot to discover the problem. Then she went above and beyond to fix the issue so that we could get grades posted for students. She saved us and we are so very thankful!

Rosalyn Martinez, CAMP Office

Ms. Martinez is such an outstanding director for CAMP and continues to support the students and alumni. She is always assuring them that they have a support system and that they can achieve their dreams. I was having a discussion with Ms. Martinez about my career, and I mentioned how unsure I am of what I’m doing currently. I shared this with her because she is someone you can trust and lean on when you are concerned about a serious matter. Ms. Martinez told me that whatever I do I’ll make a change and I just have to breathe and go easy on myself because I matter. Hearing those words coming from her meant so much. Ms. Martinez encourages her students to be proud of who they are. Her perseverance and care kept me going. Seeing her accomplish her dreams gave me faith that one day I’ll be like her; making an impact on other people's lives.

Quinncy Thomas, IT

Quinncy assisted us in setting up the necessary components to live stream the Student Awards Ceremony for our College so that friends and families of the award winners could be a part of the celebration. Quinncy was extremely helpful and communicative throughout the entire process. He went above and beyond to assist us and answer all of our questions. Without him, our ability to offer a quality virtual option would have been limited and we are so grateful for his help!

Donnell Grady, Central Warehouse

Grady delivered office furniture to Pound Hall by himself. When the bookcase was too large for the elevator, he decided he would take it up the stairs. I appreciate all the work you do!

Wade Bugby, IT

Mr. Bugby went above and beyond the call of duty to help me with multiple IT issues stemming from the sudden demise of an old laptop.  As I currently work remotely, it was crucial for me to restore files and functions that were going to be lost. Mr. Bugby patiently worked with me for a good part of the morning remotely accessing my new laptop and helping me connect it to my printer, download applications that were lost, and restore remote access to my office computer. I cannot thank him enough for his knowledge, kindness, and patience.

Wesley Babcock, IT

Mr. Babcock and his team provided exceptional customer and technical services. I was impressed with how he was troubleshooting the hardware and software issues. Thank you so much for caring and making sure we were back on track. Y'all are definitely an asset to VSU!

Anthony Bryant, Parking and Transportation

Each year we provide the community with free tax prep and filing. This means there are many non-VSU individuals who park in the north campus lot. Anthony has been wonderful to work with to reduce the number of tickets issued to community members and to assist us with citations. He always goes out of his way to ensure a smooth process.

Duke Guthrie, Theatre Productions

Duke is an extremely hard worker. His countless hours at work (sometimes his car is the only one in the parking lot) show his unconditional love for what he does and his passion for this university. Managing PSST, especially during this time of COVID, has been nothing short of miraculous. Duke has handled it with bravery and steadfastness. Many theatres around the world have closed and have not recovered. Duke would never let that happen to PSST. Peach State Summer Theatre is so important to our community and the university. Sometimes we take for granted the importance of having a professional theatre on our campus. I am proud to be a colleague!

Andrea Mendoza, Odum Library

Andrea is one of our student assistants at Odum Library and she always does a wonderful job helping library visitors during her shifts at the Reference Desk. During the Self-Love and Compassion Festival, Andrea visited the library's table as a participant but volunteered to assist with the event. Andrea was not asked and was not scheduled to work. In fact, I tried to discourage Andrea from helping because she was not on the clock. Ultimately, her help at the event was greatly appreciated. Andrea really demonstrates the best qualities of being a Blazer and we are very lucky to work with her at the library.

Shadley Hurst, Computer Science

Shadley helped me quickly complete a job for high school visitors that were visiting our campus. He stepped in without hesitation and assisted in his pleasant manner.

Knicole Lee, School of Nursing

I am writing to express my appreciation for the contribution Knicole Lee has made to my life and career. All the things she taught have helped give me a clear direction. Looking back at how my dreams have materialized into reality, she stands clearly in my mind. She patiently listened to my challenges, understood them, and motivated me to push harder. It is because of those times that I have become responsible, professional, committed, and successful in my career.

Dr. James Martinez, Teacher Education

Dr. Martinez went over and above to help me with the submission of my Final Capstone Project needed for my specialist degree in Teacher Leadership. I admire his commitment and passion for his student's success. I want to thank him for his service. I will never forget the grace and help you offered me. I will be sure to extend grace and assistance to all of my students as I continue to educate young minds. Thank you!

Wesley Babcock, IT

Wes & Quinncy diagnosed my hard drive problem, and had a replacement cloned, delivered, and hooked up within 4 hours! Amazing service at this busy time. Thanks so much!

Quinncy Thomas, IT

Wes & Quinncy diagnosed my hard drive problem, and had a replacement cloned, delivered, and hooked up within 4 hours! Amazing service at this busy time. Thanks so much!

Dr. Arrington Stoll, Communication Arts

During the Spring 2023 term, I was getting ready to have a baby while trying to finish my final semester in the Master of Communication Arts program. Dr. Stoll took exceptional care in making sure my final semester was as stress-free as possible. She always offered a listening ear and the words of encouragement I needed as a graduate student while also navigating being a first-time mom. I will always cherish the relationship Dr. Stoll built this semester.

Dr. James Martinez, Teacher Education

Dr. Martinez constantly checks in to make sure that I am always understanding my graduate coursework. Today he made my day by telling me that I have completed everything correctly and he updated me about my grades as I needed the push because I was giving up!

Dr. James Martinez, Teacher Education

Dr. Martinez has shown extreme compassion and concern this semester for his students. During a difficult semester, Dr. Martinez ensured that I was successful in completing tasks for the semester by frequently checking on me and showing concern to make sure I finished strong. His care really made a difference.

Stanley Jones, Registrar

As always, Stanley went above and beyond to reassure a student that she was indeed listed among the graduates for spring commencement when she didn't see her name listed. He regularly makes sure each individual student's concerns are heard and addressed. VSU couldn't ask for anybody better than Stanley Jones!

Dr. James Martinez, Teacher Education

Dr. Martinez has gone above and beyond to help me.

Dr. James Martinez, Teacher Education

Dr. Martinez was my professor for three graduate courses. He is an excellent professor and he is there for his students. He answers emails quickly and made my online graduate program experience awesome!

Chelsie Powell, eLearning

Ms. Powell helped me with a Gradebook revision issue in my time of need. She provided efficient, professional, and friendly service so I could adjust my grading to reflect a last-minute change in assignments. It saved me work.

Shantina Carter, Campus Services

Shantina always goes above and beyond what is expected of her in her daily work and takes pride in her work.  She always has a good attitude and keeps pushing herself each and every day!

Dr. James Martinez, Teacher Education

Dr. Martinez cares beyond measure and strives to see all students succeed. He is available at all times for assistance and makes clear expectations for his students. I appreciate his help and valuable teaching moments.

Chalise Ludlow, Theatre Productions

I want to thank Professor Ludlow for being an inspiration in my life. Her countless efforts to share her passion for Costume history, design, and overall passion for the arts have truly been an inspiration that I cannot express in one letter. Being a Biology major and an "outsider" to the FAB, Professor Ludlow always made sure that I was comfortable and felt welcomed. Professor Ludlow reached out to me in order to make sure I was adjusting to being in the FAB. She inspired me to find something I was passionate about and present it at the Undergraduate Symposium which was an amazing opportunity. She guided me each step of the way. I am glad to announce I will be going to school to get a degree in the arts before going to PA school. I will never forget the time and the experiences I had in her class and I wish her the very best in the future! Thank you, Chalise for everything!

Neal Culbreth, Student Financial Services

Neal was more than helpful and responded very quickly.

Quinncy Thomas, IT

There was a technology mishap in the UC Magnolia Rooms moments before a large event took place and our team was unable to get to the UC to assist in the issue. We were able to call Quinncy to ask if a member of his team could help our student worker investigate the complex issue the event was experiencing. Quinncy did not waste any time and personally went over to the UC to investigate and resolve the issue. Quinncy is a real MVP at VSU and his work on this campus is always appreciated.

Aimee Batista, Advancement Services

Aimee is a wonderful supervisor. She always looks out for her employees and does whatever she can to ensure we feel valued and appreciated. She is patient, kind, understanding, and willing to do what she can to make our work-life balance a priority.

Douglas Carlson, Archives

Douglas has been superb at gathering baseball alumni information. It has been priceless. Thank you.

Renee Whitmer, College of Education and Human Services

I did not pass a class this past semester which I need to finish my program this summer. The class is offered this summer and ended up being full. Renee Whitmer made it possible for me to join the summer class and not have to wait another semester to retake it. I’m so appreciative of her efforts and would love to acknowledge her work and understanding of the students she advises.

Renee Whitmer, College of Education and Human Services

Thank you, Mrs. Whitmer, for assisting me with my registration. I wanted to send a special thank you for helping me. This is not the first time you have shown yourself to be a great advisor.

Brandon Hall, IT

Brandon Hall worked patiently with me over the phone to help with getting me set up for remote desktop access. There were various complications that he handled graciously and efficiently. I was impressed with his professionalism and pleasant demeanor.

Dr. Candace Witherspoon, Accounting

I casually engaged in a conversation with Dr. Witherspoon about finding missing SOIs. I didn't think she would actually go call several different people to find the answer to my obscure question. When nobody could answer it, she started troubleshooting the university web pages until she found the answer to what others might think was a rhetorical question. I greatly appreciate that kind of diligence, especially when you render that kind of service to somebody who is not in your own department.

Megan Hancock, Admissions

Megan has repeatedly and patiently gone above and beyond to help support a grant project we have that recruits high school seniors to earn dual enrollment credit in the summer. We work with numerous school systems in South Georgia and she has expertly handled numerous questions from several schools. All of the students who end up coming to our program are here largely thanks to her outstanding work!

Lisa Parrish, Student Financial Services

We had a confusing and complex budgeting/accounting situation with a large grant that we received. Lisa was able to help us understand what had happened and how to more effectively update our tracking to ensure compliance with our grant agency. We greatly appreciate Lisa's help!

McKenzie Doran, VPFA & Budgeting Services

I had not received my payroll deposit from my bank for 3 weeks. My bank said that my name did not match what was on my driver’s license so I updated my account information with the correct change that my bank wanted, and my bank still denied my payroll deposits. Long story short, Payroll spent 52 minutes trying to get my bank to release my money. I appreciate the effort that was put forth by the Payroll department.

Yvonne Landers, VPFA & Budgeting Services

The Payroll department went over and beyond with trying to get my money deposited into my bank account due to my bank giving me trouble. Thank you for all your help.

Tiffany Lee, Odum Library

I regularly employ several CDs as part of a class I teach every semester. When those materials came due during the summer, Ms. Lee helped me over the phone to extend the deadline so I could bring them in at a later date to be renewed for the Fall semester. Ms. Lee is just one example of the exceptional service one receives from Odum Library staff, whether in person, by email, on the phone, or through online chat!

Ken Smith, Library

In advance of our upcoming evaluation visit by our accreditation agency, the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, our department must compose an extensive self-study. This includes a detailed description of the library and learning resources available at VSU. At our request, Ken Smith prepared an extensive and thorough explanation of the many specific resources available for this section of our report. Not only is the Department of Art & Design very thankful for all his efforts on our behalf, but we appreciate how his text will appropriately and effectively highlight all of the exceptional resources and services that Odum Library provides to both faculty and students!

Neal Culbreth, Student Financial Services

Neal has been very helpful and knowledgeable over the past week. He has helped me understand things and get more information about problems that were of increasing concern regarding Fees and Payments for this Summer Semester. If Neal was not as helpful with things, then I do not think I would have been able to get the information I needed. He has been a tremendous help, and I am very thankful.

Bryan FitzGerald, CELT

I recently attended the "Orienting Students to Online Learning" course. Bryan did a great job, as usual. The class was fun and informative. During a break, I asked about a problem unrelated to the class as I was having issues with a formula in my grade book. Bryan stayed late and helped me fix my grade book. It was such a relief! Thank you, Bryan!

Christy Yates, Human Resources

Christy worked with me to come up with a plan to continue the work of the archives so that it could go from a 3 FTE archives, with a Faculty Director, a LTA, and a Computer Specialist II, to a 2 FTE archives with a Program Director and an Instructional Tech Specialist to assume all the duties of the current director in addition to current duties. Savings to the school would be 78+ thousand dollars to help the university with budget cuts but would continue the more important facets of the archives program. She wrote a beautiful letter outlining the plan to be used in presenting this to the administration.

Douglas Carlson, Archives

He went out of his way to help me find an obituary I needed. He was super nice about it!

Jennifer Griffin, Bursary

Jennifer worked incredibly quickly to make sure I was able to stay in my summer classes. I waited until very close to the deadline to finish applying for loans, and she made time in her day to get everything done. I really appreciate her quick turnaround time and the care she took with my financial situation!

Joel Dion, New Media Center

He fixed our elevator via magic, and we are all grateful.

Dr. William Faux, Communication Arts

They have consistently gone above and beyond in their duties, demonstrating a remarkable commitment to their role and significantly impacting our graduate program. During their tenure, they have consistently exemplified the qualities of an exceptional faculty member. They have shown unwavering dedication to their students, colleagues, and the institution. It is their exceptional service that I wish to highlight and recognize, especially when it comes to comprehensive examinations for our students. Dr. William Faux stepped up to help write and evaluate graduate students' comprehensive exams during the summer months.

Michaela Fontaine, Event Services

Michaela always goes above and beyond to accommodate my request for spaces on campus. I know her job can be tiring, but she does it with a smile! Michaela, thank you for always being kind, understanding, and helpful.

Sheila Hall, IT

Sheila went above and beyond to help me with a problem I was having with mail merge. She worked with me until we could get it properly functioning. She is always positive and eager to help. She is a pleasure to work with, and I really appreciate her willingness to go the extra mile.

Marley Holcomb, Human Resources

Marley has been a rockstar since the first interactions years ago. Recently, my spouse and I were needing some help with our insurance and had lots of questions. Marley instantly said she would help, made an online meeting date and we just spoke. As is always the case, Marley was informative, kind, helpful, and ready to do whatever it is we need to feel secure in our choices. I really appreciate working with Marley, I trust her and am thankful to coexist at VSU with her.

Sydney Land, Event Services

Sydney is always so helpful with event planning and reservations. In the summer of 2022, I needed to make reservations for my first event. She took time to make me a list of prior vendors and participants from 2018-2019 as the event had a several-year respite due to Covid. Any time I've needed assistance since she always goes out of her way to help me. I am so thankful for the work that Sydney does for the VSU community.

Dr. Jamie Landau, CELT

Dr. Jamie Landau stepped up to help write and evaluate graduate students' comprehensive exams during the summer months.

Dr. Lucia Lu, Teacher Education

I would like to recognize Dr. Lucia Lu for playing a significant role in my decision to continue at VSU in pursuing my dreams in the field of Education. She has been an amazing instructor and a great support in my academic endeavors and future goals. During my undergrad career, I had the pleasure of taking Dr. Lu’s Education 2120 course (Exp Soc-Cult Persp. Div.). I learned so much about how one’s culture, background, and abilities can influence learning. Dr. Lu’s compassion for her students went above and beyond the classroom. At the time of this course, I was going through a lot at home with my mother recovering from cancer. It was a very difficult time. Dr. Lu was a great support as I had to balance college, work, and being my mother’s primary caretaker. Dr. Lu would call to check on my mom, make her healthy soup, and share recipes and exercises to build my mom’s strength back up. She has always shown an indescribable kindness that impacts her students and those who come in contact with her. I will never forget her willingness to help others. Even after completing my undergrad courses, Dr. Lu would check in and encourage me to keep going. It was her phone call and email about the grad program at VSU which led me to consider taking this step. I am currently enrolled in the graduate program at VSU for Elementary Education, where I was awarded Outstanding Student in the M.Ed. program. Dr. Lu has already been an encouragement for me to continue on to a Doctorate level. It was a blessing having her as an instructor once more in my graduate course, ELED 7550 Differentiating Instruction P-5 Classroom. What an understanding I gained of differentiating on the continuum scales for instruction. It has been an honor and privilege having Dr. Lu as my instructor. I am excited to walk across the graduating stage on two more occasions in the future, as well as share with her the exciting news that my mom is now six years cancer free, and I was awarded 23-24 Teacher of the Year at the school where I teach 1st grade. Dr. Lu will always have a special place in my heart and my life. Thank you, Dr. Lu, for all you have done and all you continue to do!

Bailey Raffield, Institutional Research

I reserved a conference room in the Union for an important meeting. The meeting prior to ours ran over. I needed to think fast to find a room with technology that was open in the Union. Most rooms were in use or locked. I ran into Bailey while he was working on the 1st floor of the Union and suggested I move my meeting to the Union Theater as it was open and usable due to being accessible for Orientation presentations. He stopped what he was doing, packed up all of his things, came into the theater, and made sure we could log onto the technology to show the documents we needed for this meeting. I am thankful that he was willing to stop his work to help out a fellow colleague. That is the type of heart he has and VSU is very lucky to have staff like him, who care about one another and the progression of this University.

Martha-Susan Ramirez, Teacher Education

Dr. Gayle Ramirez has been a blessing to the students of EDET 8880 for the Summer 2023 semester. The course was well laid out and Dr. Ramirez provided frequent updates and announcements, addressed FAQs, and provided clarification, which has helped me navigate through this fast-paced semester. What I found to be most caring about Dr. Ramirez is her kindness. When I told her that my elderly dad is quite ill and doesn't have much time left she understood that I would be flying home to spend time with him this summer. She has been more than patient with the number of questions I have asked and allowed me to work ahead, which I appreciate so much. I wish I would have had Dr. Ramirez as an instructor in previous Teacher Leadership courses because she truly is one of a kind!

Linda Reinhard, Advancement Services

Linda is an amazing and supportive colleague! I have learned so much from her and appreciate her patience and understanding. Linda continually goes out of her way to make all of our job easier. This is worth more than I could ever acknowledge.

Dr. Brian Sowa, Communication Arts

Dr. Brian Sowa stepped up to help write and evaluate graduate students' comprehensive exams during the summer months.

Dr. Arrington Stoll, Communication Arts

They have consistently gone above and beyond in their duties, demonstrating a remarkable commitment to their role and significantly impacting our graduate program. Craig Williams, Plant - Key Shop

I recently moved offices and had scheduled an appointment to pick up my keys. Due to the weather, the move was postponed and I didn't make my original appointment. Craig was very gracious and contacted me to reschedule my appointment to exchange my keys. He has excellent customer service and a great attitude!
