  • Important Dates

    Summer 2018

    • Application Deadline: December 15, 2017
    • Everything on the BSN Nursing Application Checklist must be completed by the application deadline of  December 15, 2017 
  • Were you previously enrolled in a nursing program?

    If you were previously enrolled in a nursing program within the last five years, you must submit a petition to the School of Nursing Admissions and Progressions Committee for permission to apply to the BSN program. For the student petition, the student classification is pre-nursing. The petition type is other: Permission to Apply to the BSN program.  Below is the link to the student petition form.

     In addition to a student petition form, a letter of good standing is needed from the nursing school you were previously enrolled in. Please include unofficial copies of your academic transcript as well.

  • Admitted to Valdosta State University

    For active duty military applicants, please contact Mr. Mark Smith (marksmith@valdosta.edu) in the Adult and Military Programs Office regarding applying to the University.

    A student identification number will be needed as a component of the application process for the BSN program. A student identification number is provided upon applying to the University. 

  • Nursing Core Requirements

    All core classes must be completed prior to the start of the BSN program.

    5/7 Rule

    Students must have five out of seven sciences completed by the application deadline. The five out of seven sciences consist of the following courses:

    BIOL 2651 (Anatomy and Physiology I)

    BIOL 2652 (Anatomy and Physiology II)

    Lab Sequence #1

    Lab Sequence #2

    MATH 2620 (Statistical Methods)

    BIOL 2900 (Microbiology in Health and Disease)

    NURS 2700 (Pathophysiology)

    CHEM 1151K & CHEM 1152K are the suggested lab science sequence. For specific questions about the lab science sequence, please contact the P.A.S.S. Center at conhspasscenter@valdosta.edu.

    2/3 Rule

    Students must have two out of three courses completed by the application deadline. The two out of three courses consist of the following courses:

     ENGL 1101 (Composition I)

    ENGL 1102 (Composition II)

    PSYC 2103 (Intro to Human Development)

    10 Year Rule

    Courses in Area F older than 10 years at the application deadline must be retaken. The following courses are in Area F.

    BIOL 2651 (Anatomy and Physiology I)

    BIOL 2652 (Anatomy and Physiology II)

    BIOL 2900 (Microbiology in Health and Disease)

    NURS 2700 (Pathophysiology)

    PSYC 2103 (Intro to Human Development)

    Beginning with the Summer 2019 cohort (December 15, 2018 application deadline), classes in Area D.2.B and Area F older than five years at the application deadline must be retaken. If a course is expired (over five years old), the course can only be retaken one time. The following classes are in Areas D.2.B and F:

    Acceptable Transfer Courses

    BIOL 2651, BIOL 2652, PSYC 2103 and BIOL 2900 will not be accepted from Technical Colleges in Georgia. The only exception is Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. The above listed classes will be accepted from Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. For questions regarding this information, please contact the CONHS P.A.S.S.   • Transcript Evaluation Options

    Option 1: Apply to Valdosta State University Undergraduate Admissions Office ($40 application fee). Send official transcripts to the Undergraduate Admissions Office. Once you receive your acceptance letter, email the P.A.S.S. Center (conhspasscenter@valdosta.edu) requesting a transcript evaluation. Please include your name and student identification number in the email.

    Option 2: Send your official transcript and $45 to Mrs. Cecilia Furey (1500 North Patterson Street, Valdosta, GA 31698). However, most students chose option 1 if they are not a VSU student because if you decide to enroll at VSU, you will eventually have to apply to Valdosta State University and pay the $40 application fee.

  • Grade Point Average Requirements

    A 2.8 overall grade point average and a 3.5 nursing certification grade point average are required for acceptance into the BSN program. The overall grade point average includes all college classes completed. The nursing certification grade point average only includes nursing core classes in Areas A-F.

    Beginning with the Summer 2019 cohort (December 15, 2018 application deadline), only classes in Areas A, D.2.B, and F will be included in the nursing certification grade point average. If a course is repeated, both grades will be included in the overall grade point average and nursing grade point average.

  • How Students Are Selected

    Students who meet the following requirements will receive acceptance into the BSN program.

    • 3.5 nursing grade point average

    • 2.8 overall grade point average

    • 75 of higher in the following HESI subject areas

    -   Math

    -   Reading Comprehension

    -   Vocabulary and General Knowledge

    -   Grammar

    -  Anatomy and Physiology

    If all of the seats for the nursing program are not filled with students who meet the above requirements, the following will be used to rank the remaining applicants.

    • Nursing Grade Point Average – 40%

    • Overall Grade Point Average – 20%

    • HESI Exam Score – 40%

    Students must meet the 5/7 rule, 2/3 rule and the HESI requirements to be eligible for admission. Students must also meet the grade requirements for Areas D.2.B and F and must not be in violation of the repeat policy to be eligible for admission.

  • HESI A2 Exam

    Valdosta State University HESI A2 Exam Requirements

    Students must earn a 75 or higher in the following areas:

    • Reading Comprehension
    • Vocabulary and General Knowledge
    • Grammar
    • Anatomy & Physiology
    • Math

    Registering for the HESI A2 Exam at Valdosta State University

    To register for the HESI A2 exam, please click on the following link to register for the exam online: https://www.registerblast.com/valdosta/Exam/List If you have any trouble registering for the HESI A2 exam online, please contact the VSU Office of Testing (229-245-3878). The HESI A2 Exam costs $40. You can pay the $40 fee online when registering for the HESI A2 exam. The exam will be administered in the VSU Office of Testing located in Powell Hall East Room 1131.

    HESI A2 Exam Limits

    The entrance exam may be repeated only ONCE in any application cycle. The HESI A2 exam scores are valid for one year.

    Current Application Cycle Dates: December 16, 2016 - December 15, 2017

    Next Application Cycle Dates: December 16, 2017 - December 15, 2018

     

    Submitting HESI A2 Exam Scores. 

    Students who complete the HESI A2 exam at a location other than Valdosta State University, please request for Evolve to send your official HESI A2 scores to conhspasscenter@valdosta.edu . There is a $15 fee to send your HESI scores to Valdosta State University.

    If you complete the HESI A2 exam at Valdosta State University, you do not need to send your scores to conhspasscenter@valdosta.edu . Your scores will automatically be received if you complete the exam at Valdosta State University. 

    If students take the HESI exam twice, the highest attempt will be used in the nursing admission decision.

  • Mandatory Applicant Information Session

    Applicants must complete a mandatory applicant information session with the College of Nursing and Health Sciences advising staff. This applicant information session is separate from advising for course registration and is offered either online or on-campus. You may choose either option.

    Face-to-Face Meeting Dates

    The face-to-face session will be held in the Health Sciences and Business Administration building room 4150.

    Summer 2018 Dates

    • Tuesday, July 18; 10:00 -11:00 a.m.
    • Monday, August 28; 4:00-5:00 p.m.
    • Wednesday, September 13; 1:00-2:00 p.m.
    • Thursday, October 5; 2:00 -3:00pm.
    • Friday, November 3; 9:00 -10:00 a.m.
