Accelerated BSN Program Application

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences has an application portal for students to apply to the nursing program. To access the College of Nursing and Health Sciences application portal, students must use their MyVSU username and password.

For applicants who are not current or former Valdosta State University students, a MyVSU username and password will be provided once accepted to Valdosta State University. Please do not procrastinate in applying to Valdosta State University.

Please click on the link below to access the College of Nursing and Health Sciences application portal. The welcome page of the application portal will provide detailed instructions on submitting an application through the application portal. 

Students will find out their acceptance status for the BSN program 8 to 10 weeks after the application deadline.

The HESI Admission Assessment Exam is required for admission to the Valdosta State University nursing programs. The HESI Admission Assessment is offered by appointment through VSU’s Office of Testing.  It is also available through the HESI Distance Testing Program and is administered at Prometric Testing Centers. If you would like more information about HESI Distance Testing, please email testing@valdosta.edu. 

To be eligible for admission into the VSU nursing programs, students must earn a 75 or higher in the following areas: 

Reading Comprehension
Vocabulary
Grammar
Anatomy & Physiology
Math   

NOTE:  Students may take the test twice (2 times) per application cycle. You can take the HESI by appointment through the University Testing Center.  For more information regarding the use of the HESI by the VSU, please contact the College of Nursing and Health Sciences Advising Center.

If you were previously enrolled in a nursing program within the last five years, you must submit a petition to the School of Nursing Admissions and Progressions Committee for permission to apply to the BSN program. For the student petition, the student classification is pre-nursing. The petition type is other: Permission to Apply to the BSN program.  Below is the link to the student petition form.

 In addition to a student petition form, a letter of good standing is needed from the nursing school you were previously enrolled in. Please include official copies of your academic transcript as well.

A student identification number will be needed as a component of the application process for the BSN program. A student identification number is provided upon applying to the University. 

 

5 Year Rule

Courses in Area D.2.B and Area F older than five years at the application deadline must be retaken. If a class is expired (over five years old), the course can only be retaken one time. The following courses are in Areas D.2.B and F:

Option 1: Apply to Valdosta State University Undergraduate Admissions Office ($40 application fee). Send official transcripts to the Undergraduate Admissions Office. Once you receive your acceptance letter, email the CONHS Advising Center (conhsadvising@valdosta.edu) requesting a transcript evaluation. Please include your name and student identification number in the email.

For active duty military applicants, please contact the Adult and Military Programs Office regarding applying to the University. 

A 2.8 overall grade point average and a 3.0 nursing certification grade point average are required for acceptance into the BSN program. The overall grade point average includes all college classes completed. The nursing certification grade point average only includes nursing core classes in Areas A-F.

Beginning with the Summer 2019 cohort (December 15, 2018 application deadline), only classes in Areas A, D.2.B, and F will be included in the nursing certification grade point average. If a course is repeated, both grades will be included in the overall grade point average and nursing grade point average.
