    A student identification number will be needed as a component of the application process for the BSN program. A student identification number is provided upon applying to the University. 

  • Nursing Core Requirements

    All core classes must be completed prior to the start of the BSN program.

    5/7 Rule

    Students must have five out of seven sciences completed by the application deadline. The five out of seven sciences consist of the following courses:

    BIOL 2651 (Anatomy and Physiology I)

    BIOL 2652 (Anatomy and Physiology II)

    Lab Sequence #1

    Lab Sequence #2

    MATH 2620 (Statistical Methods)

    BIOL 2900 (Microbiology in Health and Disease)

    NURS 2700 (Pathophysiology)

    CHEM 1151K & CHEM 1152K are the suggested lab science sequence. For specific questions about the lab science sequence, please contact the P.A.S.S. Center at conhspasscenter@valdosta.edu.

    2/3 Rule

    Students must have two out of three courses completed by the application deadline. The two out of three courses consist of the following courses:

     ENGL 1101 (Composition I)

    ENGL 1102 (Composition II)

    PSYC 2103 (Intro to Human Development)

    10 Year Rule

    Courses in Area F older than 10 years at the application deadline must be retaken. The following courses are in Area F.

    Repeat Policy

    Minimum of “C” in each math and science course in Areas D.2.B and F. Math and science courses in Areas D.2.B and F may not be repeated more than once. The courses in Area D.2.B and F are below.

    Acceptable Transfer Courses

    BIOL 2651: Human Anatomy and Physiology I, BIOL 2652: Human Anatomy and Physiology II, BIOL 2900: Microbiology, and PSYC 2103: Pathophysiology will not be accepted from Technical Colleges in Georgia. The only exception is Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. The previously listed classes will be accepted from Wiregrass Georgia Technical College.   • Transcript Evaluation Options

    Option 1: Apply to Valdosta State University Undergraduate Admissions Office ($40 application fee). Send official transcripts to the Undergraduate Admissions Office. Once you receive your acceptance letter, email the P.A.S.S. Center (conhspasscenter@valdosta.edu) requesting a transcript evaluation. Please include your name and student identification number in the email.

    Option 2: Send your official transcript and $45 to Mrs. Cecilia Furey (1500 North Patterson Street, Valdosta, GA 31698). However, most students chose option 1 if they are not a VSU student because if you decide to enroll at VSU, you will eventually have to apply to Valdosta State University and pay the $40 application fee.

  • Grade Point Average Requirements

    A minimum 2.8 overall grade point average and a minimum 2.8 nursing certification grade point average are required for acceptance into the BSN program.

    The overall grade point average includes all college classes completed. The nursing certification grade point average only includes nursing core classes.

  • Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)

    Valdosta State University TEAS Requirements

    Students must meet or exceed the national average on BOTH the Adjusted Individual Total Score and the TEAS Reading sections.

    Registering for the TEAS at Valdosta State University

    To register for the TEAS exam, please contact the VSU Testing Office (229-245-3878)  to schedule a day/time to take the TEAS exam. Please contact the VSU Testing Office at least 24 hours in advance of your preferred testing date. To pay for the TEAS exam, students must pay the $60 administrative fee with cash (exact amount), check (payable to VSU),  or online with credit/debit card athttp://www.valdosta.edu/academics/services/testing/testing-programs-and-fees.php the day of the exam in the VSU Testing Office located in Powell Hall East Room 1131. For questions regarding scheduling the TEAS exam, please contact the VSU Testing Office at 229-245-3878. 

    Preparing for the TEAS Exam

    There are study resources available to assist students in preparing for the TEAS Exam. A Study Manual for TEAS is available in the Valdosta State University bookstore. The ATI website also provides practice test and a study guide for students preparing for the TEAS exam. In order to access the TEAS practice test and study guide, click on the following link http://www.atitesting.com/Home.aspx, click on ATI Product Solutions and click on Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS).

    TEAS Limits

    The entrance exam may be repeated only ONCE in any application cycle.

    Next Application Cycle Dates: August 16, 2016 - January 15, 2017

    Submitting TEAS Exam Scores

    Students who completed the TEAS exam at a location other than Valdosta State University, please request for ATI to send official TEAS scores to Valdosta State University TEAS by the application deadline.

    If you completed the TEAS exam at Valdosta State University, you do not need to send your scores. Your scores will be automatically received. 

     

  • Mandatory Applicant Information Session

    Applicants must complete a mandatory applicant information session with the College of Nursing and Health Sciences advising staff. This applicant information session is separate from advising for course registration and is offered either online or on-campus. You may choose either option.

    Face-to-Face Meeting Dates

    The face-to-face session will be held in the Health Sciences and Business Administration building room 4150.

  • Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program (MECP)

    For U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine military personnel interested in pursuing the Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program (MECP) for fall 2017, the application deadline for the nursing program is June 1, 2016. All of the application requirements must be met and submitted by this date. Potential students will also need to submit a leave earning statement to verify military status. Please submit your leave earning statement to the P.A.S.S. Center (conhspasscenter@valdosta.edu).

    Submitting your application by June 1, 2016 does not guarantee you acceptance into the BSN program. You will receive a letter indicating if you are conditionally accepted by July 15, 2016. For information regarding the admissions requirements, please contact the P.A.S.S. Center at conhspasscenter@valdosta.edu.

    To apply to Valdosta State University as a military applicant, please contact Mr. Mark Smith (marksmith@valdosta.edu) in the Adult and Military Programs Office.
