Office of Field Experiences and Clinical Practice

Welcome to the Office of Field Experiences and Clinical Practice (FECP) at the Dewar College of Education and Human Services, Valdosta State University. This department provides information on topics related to Teacher Education from admission requirements to all field experiences and state certification tests.

The FECP Office serves as the liaison between the various teacher education programs in scheduling and implementing arrangements for all undergraduate field experiences.  The FECP office is responsible for proper administration of the field experience program by providing overall leadership and direction for the program.  The FECP office will:

  • implement all approved standards and policies governing field experiences and Clinical Practice
  • check all applications of candidates who wish to enroll in Clinical Practice and ascertain that applicants meet qualifications for field experiences and Clinical Practice
  • work with teacher candidates, university program coordinators, and site administrators in the placement of all candidates for all field experience placements.  Selection process is determined by many factors including but not limited to: the strengths/weaknesses of a particular teacher candidate, the strengths/weaknesses of a particular mentor teacher, the need to place at least two candidates in a particular school in order to provide peer support, recommendations from a candidate’s advisor/program coordinator or a faculty member, recommendations from a teacher in a prior field experience, recommendation from a public school administrator, the university supervisor’s clinical practice load, travel considerations and the availability of mentor teachers.  Efforts are made to place as many candidates as possible in the COE’s cooperating schools.
  • prepare forms and materials necessary for the administration of the program
  • assist each department and cooperating schools with concerns that any placement may cause either party

If you need assistance of any kind or an explanation on how to make use of the resources provided on this website, feel free to contact our office at any time.
