He received his doctorate in Education and Sociology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. James was a teacher and coach for almost two decades in rural, inner-city and urban profile public schools. His teaching and research interests are critical pedagogy, critical race theory, differentiated multicultural education instruction, youth gang risk factors, education innovation, immigration reform, and racial/ethnic inequality. |

Dr. Peggy L. Moch is a former inner city high school mathematics teacher from Orlando, Florida and Professor of Mathematics Education at Valdosta State University (VSU) where she teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate mathematics education courses in face to face and online classes. Peggy graduated with a Ph.D. in 2002 from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida where she was awarded the Order of Pegasus award, the highest award given to students. She is the International President-Elect of Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education (KDP) (2014-2016) and was elected to the American Association for Teaching and Curriculum (AATC) Executive Council (2011-2014). Her research interests are in pre-service teacher mathematics self-efficacy, mathematics anxiety, motivational theory, and using technology in the classroom. She recently co-authored a new early childhood education mathematics content textbook for Kendall Hunt Publications published in August 2014: Creating a Positive Change in Elementary Teacher Mathematics. |

I am currently completing my dissertation on grief and Toni Morrison's Beloved and A Mercy . My teaching interests lie in African American literature and gender studies. I received my Ph.D. in Sociology from Ohio State University in 2011. My teaching and research specializations are in gender, international/comparative sociology, quantitative methodology. In previous work, I have examined the success of a campaign against sexual harassment of women in Egypt; cross-national variation in attitudes towards women's employment rights; women's willingness to engage in political protest in the Middle East; and the influence of religion on attitudes towards democracy. I have published in Mobilization, International Journal of Sociology, Comparative Sociology, and Sociological Spectrum. My current work focuses on the factors that shape people's confidence in science. |

Dr. Ramirez earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from the University of North Georgia, her Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Doctor of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Sociology from Valdosta State University. Her scholarly attention focuses on sexism, gender discrimination, racism, education reform by incorporating systemic approaches, and the sociology of education. In addition to ther academic pursuits, Dr. Ramirez practices as a Professional Counselor in Valdosta and Tifton, Georgia. |

I consider myself an activist scholar and am very involved on campus and in the community advocating for social justice. I think everyone can benefit from a minor in Women's and Gender Studies. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, competing in sprint triathlons, cycling, running, doing yoga, and reading. |
