Valdosta State University’s minor in international studies provides students with a fundamental understanding of international studies as an academic field and highlights the dynamics involved in international affairs. Students with minors in international studies also gain valuable exposure to world regions, transnational affairs, or a disciplinary specialty that is international in scope. Students will also have opportunities for undergraduate research, service, experiential learning, and community engagement in the international field.

Through the international studies minor, students will reflect on the complexities of various cultures and distinguish key characteristics in order to develop a cross-cultural understanding of the world. As students explore a variety of cultures, they will be given the knowledge and tools needed to analyze international and inter-disciplinary phenomenon across societies. In and out of the classroom, students will be provided with opportunities for growth by engaging in hands-on learning experiences. Whether students are in the classroom learning from faculty mentors, or halfway across the world studying and researching abroad, they will be provided with an education rooted in worldly perspectives and be prepared to stand out in a highly competitive workforce upon graduation.
