VSU Department of Art and Design Spring Senior Exhibitions Go Virtual
VALDOSTA — The Valdosta State University Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery presents “In Bold,” a virtual recognition of 15 graduating Department of Art and Design students at www.vsuartdesignseniors.org.
“In Bold” features a variety of two- and three-dimensional work spanning multiple mediums by Nariel Tribble, Tony Coates, Alexis Bass, Karla Noble, Blake Wise, Chelsea Klewicki, Celeste Civis, Kyana Calhoun, A’Niecia De Four, Logan Lott, Mirakal Jackson, Shelby Coulter, Tatyana Jackson, Taylor Rutledge, and Isaac Wright. All of the students are art majors who anticipate graduating with either a Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor of Arts in May.
“Every member of our senior class seeks to convey the truth of our life experiences within our art,” event organizers shared. “We use radical social and political ideas in our work, directly engaging with our audience to promote conversation and understanding. Creativity is essential to our personal growth and the expression of our individual truths, and design is our vehicle to engage the public, to educate and inform. Every one of us is unapologetically ourselves, and this show is documentation of our lives and our art in progress.”
The Department of Art and Design also presents the spring senior exhibition of final projects by 10 interior design majors graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in May. This collection features work by Amber Bethel, Caroline Daniel, Lesheena Dixon-Grasso, Brooke Goins, Meagan Howard, Haeseong Lee, Hailee Lutz, Rachel Mathis, Anna Taylor, and Kwan Goo Yeo and highlights their mastery of the art and science of enhancing the interior of a building to create a space that is functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing to the people who use it.
The spring senior exhibition for art majors is typically held inside VSU’s Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery, and the spring senior exhibition for interior design majors is typically held inside VSU’s University Center. However, due to the ongoing global health crisis and restrictions on social gatherings, the exhibits were moved online to allow these students the opportunity to present their work and celebrate years of patience, courage, creativity, and determination.
