File Sharing and Storage Solutions
Valdosta State University offers you several methods for sharing and storing files. Deciding which method to use depends on factors such as the size of the file, how long it needs to be available, the sensitivity of the content, as well as who will access it and from where.

OneDrive for Business (File Storage & Sharing)
Available to students, faculty, and staff, Valdosta State University OneDrive for Business is a component of Microsoft Office 365 that you access by logging in to your MyVSU account and selecting Email. It provides 1 terabyte (1 TB) of cloud storage space for files, and is accessible from most any Internet-connected device. You can also sync your OneDrive library to your computer. Collaborative sharing and editing of files with colleagues and students is possible, whether or not they have an Office 365 account.
Visit OneDrive for more information and how to setup and use OneDrive.
Network Drive Class Shares (V:) (File Storage & Sharing)
The V: drive “class” file share is available to faculty and students needing access to a common storage area from computers on the institutional campus network in classrooms, labs, and offices. By logging in to the computer using your MyVSU credentials, this network drive can be accessed by Windows and Mac systems on campus. Each class will have its own folder, underneath which is a PUBLIC folder to which all students and instructors of the class have access, as well as a folder for each student and instructor. Access to the V: drive “class” file share is generated automatically each semester based upon class enrollment.
Filelocker (File Sharing)
Filelocker is a web-based service available at https://filelocker.valdosta.edu that allows VSU faculty, staff, and students to securely share files with anyone inside or outside the university. Use your MyVSU credentials to login. It is ideal for sharing files that are too large to send via email, as well as documents that contain sensitive information such as Student ID numbers. Users can share files up to 1 gigabyte (1 GB) in size and encrypt files using a password. Recipients receive an email notification containing link to download file. Files are stored for a fixed amount of time only and are accessible from anywhere, on any device with an Internet connection.

Network Drive Department Shares (V:) (File Storage & Sharing)
The V: drive “dept” file share is available to employees and departments needing access to a common storage area from computers on the institutional campus network in offices. By logging in to the computer using your MyVSU credentials, this network drive can be accessed by Windows and Mac systems on campus, and through sanctioned Remote Access when off campus. Access to the V: drive “dept” file share is granted based on submission of Service Request by departmental staff.
Active Archive (File Archiving of the V:\ Drives)
VSU Information Technology is implementing an effective and cost-saving storage solution called “Active Archive”—a virtualized, tiered file system. Active archiving permits us to store your files on the most appropriate media based on data retention and restoration needs. This allows infrequently modified or accessed files to be stored on less expensive media (i.e., magnetic tape), and eliminates the need for an administrator to manually transfer data between storage systems -- saving VSU thousands of dollars. You may notice a slight increase in the time it takes to retrieve your older files (those that are 2 years or older) that have a gray 'x' icon located to the left of them that are stored at the V:\depts locations. To learn more, please view our active archiving powerpoint.
