History of the Department: The Valdosta State Political Science Department is under the College of Arts and Sciences. The first department head noted for the Modern Foreign Language Department was Dr. James Thornton, 1970-1972; then Dr. Jose B. Fernandez served from 1972-198; Dr. Dennis Hale, 1981-1989 followed. Dr. Sandra Walker has been head of Modern Foreign Languages since 1989.
Scope and Content: The Collection is not comprehensive but contains scattered holdings. It includes recruitment and program brochures, memos, and course advertisements. A copy of the Foreign Language Beacon contains an article on Dr. Fernandez's being named to head the program. A single copy of the American Association of Teachers of French's Bulletin Francais is included. Several issues of Who's Who in Foreign Languages in Georgia and Florida High Schools, from 1987-1989 are here. The collection includes 1988 brochures on Saft America's Scholarship for study of Business and French at Valdosta State.
