VSU's Chamber Singers and Trombone Ensemble to Hold Preview Concert Before Performances in Europe

VALDOSTA, Ga. – With less than a month until they leave for Europe, Valdosta State University’s Chamber Singers and Trombone Ensemble are holding a preview concert for the community on Monday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Powell Recital Hall.
Thirty students make up the Chamber Singers and Trombone Ensemble, and they are headed to Portugal and Spain on May 6 to perform in the Lisbon Music Festival. The festival brings musical groups together from around the world.
The Department of Music has been fundraising since fall 2023 to pay for the students to attend the festival. Dr. Clell Wright, director of choral activities at VSU, says all of the money has been successfully raised for the trip.
“We are so thankful for the donors who recognized what an incredible opportunity this is for our students,” said Wright. “This preview concert is our way of thanking our donors and the community for their support.”
The students will perform several times in multiple locations during the trip. They have been rehearsing for months.
“I am so proud of our students and how hard they have worked to prepare for their performances,” said Dr. Doug Farwell, professor of trombone at VSU. “They are going to get a wonderful musical and cultural experience, and it’s an experience they will remember forever.”
The students will return from Europe on May 14.
