VALDOSTA — Jenil Ajit Patel of Thomasville, Georgia, is the recipient of the Fall 2020 President’s Award for Academic Excellence for the College of Science and Mathematics at Valdosta State University.

The President’s Award for Academic Excellence is presented to the graduating student with the highest grade point average in each of VSU’s six colleges — Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, College of the Arts, James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education and Human Services, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and College of Science and Mathematics.

Patel will be recognized during VSU’s 230th Commencement at 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14, at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. He will graduate cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry.

"I am honored to be named the top graduate for the College of Science and Mathematics at VSU,” he said. “All the hard work, the late nights in the library, and the stress have finally paid off. This wouldn’t have been possible without support and motivation from my friends and family.”

As a student at VSU, Patel was a member of Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta): National Biological Honor Society and a two-time senator with the Student Government Association.

Patel’s commitment to academic and leadership excellence resulted in him earning repeated Dean’s List honors, the Martha H. Barnes Scholarship, and the Walter R. and Dorothy S. Salter Scholarship.

Patel plans to continue his education after graduation and study healthcare law. He is the son of Ajit and Tina Patel, brother of Sapan Patel and Hari and V. Desai, and friend of Kevin Patel and Khyati Patel.
