VSU to Resume Classes on Thursday, Staff Should Report to Work on Wednesday
VALDOSTA — (UPDATE 10:35 p.m. September 11, 2017): Valdosta State University is canceling classes for Wednesday, Sept. 13, due to the effects of Hurricane Irma. VSU administrative offices, Odum Library, the Student Recreation Center, and the Student Union will open at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13.
VSU staff should report to work at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13. If you or your staff have sustained damage or other circumstances that would prevent you from returning to campus on Wednesday, please let your supervisor know. Supervisors should remain flexible in allowing staff to return to work safely.
The VSU Office of Public Safety is monitoring Hurricane José and will provide updates as they become available. All activities for the weekend of Sept. 15-17 will continue as scheduled, including Parents Weekend and the VSU Blazers football game against the University of North Alabama Lions.
All classes on Monday, Sept. 11, Tuesday, Sept. 12, and Wednesday, Sept. 13, have been cancelled. This includes all online classes and classes held at Moody Air Force Base and at the Camden County campus.
Residence halls remain open and staffed. Housing staff will remain in the halls in the following days to assist on-campus students. Students are encouraged to follow all housing staff guidelines during this time.
Palms Dining will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12. All other dining locations will resume regular operating hours on Wednesday, Sept. 13.
Classes will resume on Thursday, Sept. 14. Because of power outages and storm damage throughout the storm’s path, faculty members are asked to be flexible during this time and to work with our online and on-campus students on the best accommodation necessary. Tropical Storm Irma-related updates will be posted at www.valdosta.edu/news, on Facebook (VStateNews), and Twitter (@VStateNews); shared with area news media; and sent directly to students, faculty, and staff through the Campus Alert System via text message, voice call, and email.
