Summer Camps at Valdosta State University

VALDOSTA -- Valdosta State University will hold a variety of camps this summer that will provide students of all ages with the opportunity to gain new intellectual and physical skills. See the list below to learn about the academic, athletic and continuing education camp options available.

Academic Camps

What: Camp Invention

Who: Grades 1-6

When: June 3 - 7

Cost: $220

What: Computing Adventures @ VSU 2013

Who: Middle school students

When: July 15 - 19

Cost: $200 (before April 30) and $220 (after April 30)

This summer's camp will feature robotics and Android apps. Campers will create their own robots from Lego pieces and sensors and program them to do innovative and exciting tasks. Campers will also create Android apps, which they will install and test on actual Android phones. For more information, visit www.valdosta.edu/computingcamp/ .

What: Forensic Science Camp

Who: Rising high school juniors and seniors

When: June 10 - 14

Cost: $150

This Forensic Science Camp is a week-long hands-on camp for students to discover what a real CSI does. During this week, students will learn how to process a mock crime scene, conduct laboratory work to solve the crime, visit a real crime lab, and bring their mock case to trial. Students should have taken at least two science courses including biology to participate. Lunch and snacks will be provided, along with a camp t-shirt. There will be a maximum of 30 spots available. A $20 deposit is required, and interested students should apply by June 20. Football

What: 2013 David Dean Youth Camp

Who: Boys and Girls, ages 5-13

When: June 3 - 6

Cost: $100

Come join the Valdosta State University National Championship Football program Youth Football Camp. Boys and girls will have the chance to learn basic fundamentals of playing the game of football. What: All Position Team Camp

Who: Grades 8-12

When: June 9 - 10

Cost: $175  ($195 for kickers and $150 per camper if a team brings 10 or more campers)

This camp will be for every position. Each position will learn the basic fundamentals along with the basic concepts of the Valdosta State Spread Offense and the 4-3 Defense, bringing you the same skills that the VSU football players practice daily. What: The Valdosta State 7-on-7 Passing Tournament

Who: Ages 14 and up

When: June 8

Cost: $200 per team

This camp will be held over a one-day period.  Each team will be guaranteed four games in a round robin format.  There will be a single elimination tournament at the end of the round robin. Pre-registration will be required. For more information, visit the football page at www.vstateblazers.com.

What: The Valdosta State Lineman Challenge

Who: Ages 14 and up

When: June 8

Cost: $200 per team

This camp will be held at the same time as the 7-on-7 Passing Tournament.  The challenge will give the offensive and defensive lineman a chance to compete just like the skill players.  There will be a Bench Press Contest, Tractor Tire Relay, Tug of War, Obstacle Course, Med Ball Throw and various other competitions. If your school chooses to have a team participate in both the passing tournament and lineman challenge (or two teams in one event), the discounted cost will be $350.00. Baseball

What: Five Tool Camp

Who: Ages 7-12

When: June 3 - 6

Cost: $180, includes lunch and a t-shirt

All-around camp for players of all skill levels. Focus is on the "five tools" of professional baseball players - throwing, catching, base-running, hitting for average and hitting for power. Learn techniques and drills, play games and improve your skills and earn prizes. Giant water slides will also be part of the camp. For more information, email vstatebaseballcamps@gmail.com.

What: Instructional Week

Who: Ages 8 - 12

When: June 10 - 11 (Pitcher/Catcher), June 10 - 11 (Advanced Hitting), June 12 - 13 (Infield/Outfield Play), June 12 - 13 (Sandlot Games)

Cost: $30 per session or all four sessions for $100

What: Lady Blazers Softball Camps
Who/When: Girls, ages 13-18 (June 10-12) and ages, 8-12 (June 24-26)

Cost: $120 (register by May 31 for $10 discount) or Team/Family (2+) $110 each person

Soccer

What: VSU Girls & Boys Soccer Camp 2013

Who: Girls and Boys, ages 4 - 18

When: July 15 - 18 (Session 1), July 23 - 26 (Session 2), July 22-25 (Session 3 Residential), July 21-25 (Session 3 Team)

Cost: $140 (Half Day Session 1 & 2), $280 (Full Day Session 1 & 2), $390 (Session 3 Residential), $340 (Session 3 Team)

Continuing Education Camps

What: Camp Discovery 2013

Who: Children ages 5 and older

When: Morning/afternoon May 28 - July 26

Cost: $55+ (Discounts available: $5 per camp early bird discount if payment is received by May 31; $5 per camp VSU staff/faculty/student discount (must provide VSU ID). Ask for your discount(s) when you register.)

Many of your old favorites are back, like Legos, a variety of art camps, Survivor VSU, Broadway Bound, and Tennis. We also have some great NEW camps this year--look for French and Spanish language camps for teens, Future Architects and City Builders for budding engineers and architects, and It's Electric for some high-voltage fun! We offer discounts for siblings, children of VSU faculty, staff, and students, and an “early bird” discount for registrations received by May 31.
