VSU participates in National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week
The Office of Volunteer Services at Valdosta State University is
hosting National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, November
14 19, with a full week of activities open to VSU members and the
community.
Each year, one week before Thanksgiving, the National Coalition for
the Homeless and the National Student Campaign against Hunger and
Homelessness co-sponsor National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness
Week. Communities nationwide take part in bringing greater
awareness to the problems of hunger and homelessness.
The schedule of events is as follows:
Monday, November 14: Canned Wars
VSU dorms residents will compete by collecting money, food, or
clothing items at the front desk of their halls. Each item
collected will be worth a certain number of points. On Tuesday,
November 22, the points will be calculated and the winning hall
will receive a prize.
Tuesday, November 15: Movie in the Quad
The movie "From Homeless to Harvard" will be shown in Palms Quad at
7 p.m. The movie is based on a true story of a homeless girl who
pulls herself out of her unfortunate situation.
Thursday, November 17: LAMP
Members of the VSU community are encouraged to volunteer at the
local shelter from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Friday, November18: Second Harvest
This day provides another volunteer opportunity for VSU members at
the local food bank from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Saturday, November 19: Habitat for Humanity
A shuttle bus will leave the University Union at 8:45 a.m. to a
Habitat for Humanity volunteer site.
The Office of Volunteer Services would like to thank the Valdosta
community for their contributions to recent hurricane victim relief
efforts and asks for continued support during National Hunger and
Homelessness Awareness Week activities.
