VSU Professor Frank Barnas awarded Sasakawa Fellowship
Mass Media Professor Frank Barnas has been awarded with a
Sasakawa Fellowship titled "Incorporating Japanese Studies into the
Undergraduate Curriculum." Barnas was one of 20 professors
nationwide awarded the summer fellowship which is being held in San
Diego.
The purpose of the fellowship is to devise ways to introduce
Japanese culture, literature, and art into their courses. One of
Barnas' courses is International Media, of which Japan has been a
country of extensive study.
"The Sasakawa fellowship will also help us develop our new Mass
Media program in International Documentary Production. We've had
Mass Media students work in Russia and across Europe, but we're
eager to add Japanese opportunities for our students," Barnas
said.
While at the fellowship he will study language, history, Japanese
multiculturalism, literature, and other fields to further develop
his teaching and research.
The San Diego Fellowships are sponsored by the American Association
of State Colleges and Universities through the National Faculty
Development Institute. The fellowship is scheduled to end in the
second week of July.
