Sarah Jane Young is the newly appointed Assistant Professor of Flute at Valdosta State University! Dr. Young received her Doctor of Music degree in Flute Performance, Master of Music degree in Flute Performance, and Teaching Certificate from Florida State University. She received her Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from the University of Massachusetts. Dr. Young previously taught flute at the University of North Florida, the University of West Florida, Bethune-Cookman University, and the King Hussein Foundation National Music Conservatory in Amman, Jordan, where she served as Principal Flute with the Amman Symphony Orchestra and the Amman Sinfonietta. She is the principal flutist in the Albany Symphony Orchestra, the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra and the piccolo player for the Tallahassee, Pensacola, and Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra. A champion of new music, she directs projects and performs on all types of flutes with the Bold City Contemporary Ensemble and new music collective.
