At Valdosta State University Continuing Education we offer a variety of course formats for teachers to maintain their certification and explore new areas of educational interest. In addition, we offer Advanced Placement Summer Institutes on campus for teachers interested in teaching AP® and Pre-AP® courses.

Self-paced/Open Entry PLU Approved Courses Online

Valdosta State University Continuing Education has partnered with Virtual Education Software, Inc.(VESi) to offer professional learning unit courses for K-12 educators. These interactive continuing education courses provide expert instruction at a pace that fits your schedule.

Instructor-paced PLU Approved Courses Online

Valdosta State University Continuing Education has partnered with ED2GO to offer courses for professional learning units (PLUs). Lessons in these courses are paced out over a six-week period. Each lesson includes a quiz, which is instructional in nature, and there is a final test attached to the last lesson. The final test must be passed at the 75% level to receive PLU credit.

All 6-week instructor-paced PLU courses are $119 beginning with the September 2014 session, unless otherwise noted. For a complete list of classes, click HERE.

Preparation for Teaching AP® Classes -  Summer Institutes

Valdosta State University Continuing Education is an approved provider of week-long Advanced Placement Summer Institutes® (APSI®) for teachers committed to the pursuit of enhanced teaching and learningInstitute offerings vary each year and are held in late June and mid-July. All programs are taught by College Board approved consultants.

Basic System Requirements for Online courses:

Macintosh Requirements:

  • Operating system 9.2, OS10.x, OS X 10.5 Leopard
  • A color monitor, min. 15" capable of displaying 800x600 px
  • 256 MB of RAM, 5MB of hard disk space
  • A printer attached to your computer

Windows Requirements:

  • Windows XP or newer
  • A color monitor, min. 15" capable of displaying 800x600 px
  • 256 MB of RAM, at least 5 MB of available hard drive space
  • A printer attached to your computer

Software and Network Requirements:

High-speed Internet access, e-mail, Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer web browser. For those courses related to a specific software application (PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) you will need to have the appropriate software installed on your computer. 

PLU Requirements:
A "Prior Approval" form will be emailed to you upon registration. This form must be completed and signed by your superintendent or system designee and returned to VSU Continuing Education. If you are not currently employed in a school setting you must sign the bottom of the form. It is your responsibility to make sure your school system will accept courses delivered via Online Instruction for PLU credit. Courses approved for PLU credit are not convertible to academic credit. 

Upon completion of the course you must submit the required assignments and original course completion certificate as directed in your course materials. Those taking the 6-week instructor-paced online courses should mail or fax the certificate generated upon submission of the final to VSU Continuing Education (fax 229.333.5397). Upon verification of mastery a "Completion Letter" will be sent to your superintendent or system designee and a copy will be sent to you for your records. For those taking one of the self-paced online courses, please be sure to submit all course activities and the evaluation per the course instructions. Once submitted, your work will be reviewed by the instructor who will then send us a grade report. Once we receive the grade report we will create a completion letter. The original will be sent to the person who signed the prior approval form and a copy of the form, along with a certificate will be mailed to you.
