VSU Chemistry degree options prepare you to succeed in a wide variety of careers. All of our degree options include the core Chemistry courses that you need for success: Organic Chemistry, Quantitative and Instrumental Analysis (Analytical Chemistry), Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physical Chemistry. All Chemistry majors take courses in physics, math, and other science electives.

The Pre-Professional degree option is our standard option, allowing students maximum flexibility in choosing their electives. Students interested in graduate school might consider the ACS certified degree options. Given the wide variety of careers that await our graduates, we have designed specialty degree options for students interested in pre-health careers, including Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-Medical, Pre-Dental, and Pre-Optometry. We also offer options for students interested in business, environmental chemistry, and teaching as careers.

Course Offering Schedule

To help you plan your schedule for whatever degree option you follow, we provide a list of Chemistry courses offered during the next two years. Talk with your Academic Advisor about picking a degree option, classes, and a career that fits your interests. 

 

Chemistry Minor

If you can't fit a full chemistry degree program in your VSU schedule, you can still get a Minor in Chemistry by completing Organic I and Organic II (CHEM 3401 and 3402) then at least seven more credit hours. Complete this form to declare a Minor in Chemistry.

 

Experiential Learning

As a chemistry student, you will engage in hands-on experiences that relate the activities to your life. This process is known as experiential learning and is critical to your academic and personal growth. Experiential learning is especially important in chemistry since chemists must not only observe the scientific phenomena they study but also reflect, conceptualize, and apply their knowledge in new ways that affects the world around them.

We incorporate experiential learning from the very first chemistry course to the last. Students receive experiential learning (EL) credit for Principles of Chemistry I and II labs (CHEM 1211L and CHEM 1212L), qualitative analysis (CHEM 2310), first-year and senior year seminars (CHEM 1210 and CHEM 4210), and undergraduate research (CHEM 4910).
