Servicemember Policies
Valdosta State University is committed to maintaining policies and procedures that recognize the special circumstances that face those in uniform.
Readmission
The intent of the US Department of Education Readmission policy as it applies to Servicemembers is to ensure that they are not penalized academically or financially for active duty. VSU fully supports this policy. The specific details are available at the US Government Publishing Office's Electronic Code of Federal Regulations under Title 34 -- Subtitle B -- Chapter VI -- Part 668 -- Subpart B -- §668.18 (linked here).
Credit for Prior Learning
Servicemembers are afforded the same opportunity to earn college credits through the Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) program as all other students. Additional information may be found in the Credit for Prior Learning section of the catalog and on the CPL webpage.
Academic Renewal Policy (Georgia Board of Regents)
The University System of Georgia allows students who are re-entering a USG college after an absence of five or more years and who experienced previous academic difficulties the one-time opportunity to renew grades for graduation GPA purposes. Students are advised that academic renewal may affect financial aid and are urged to consult with the VSU Financial Aid Office. A full explanation of the policy and criteria for acceptance can be found on the Board of Regents' website indicated above. VSU Application for Academic Renewal (PDF)
