For Regular Term Face-to-Face Classes (15 week classes)
In order to mitigate the health risk of an extended break to the Blazer community, Valdosta State University will eliminate its 2021 weeklong spring break (originally scheduled for March 15-19). However, classes will still begin as originally scheduled on Monday, January 11, and final exams will conclude on Friday, May 7. To allow both students and faculty some needed break time during the course of the semester, VSU will instead use the five days allotted for spring break at various points during the semester as wellness days. These dates are as follows:
Date | Event |
Monday, January 11 | First Class Day |
Monday, January 18 | Martin Luther King, Jr. National Holiday; university is closed. |
Tuesday February 16 | Wellness Day: university is open but no classes are held and no assignments or assessments are due. |
Thursday, March 4 | Midterm |
Thursday, March 11 | Last Day to Withdraw |
Wednesday, March 17 | Wellness Day: university is open but no classes are held and no assignments or assessments are due. |
Friday, April 2 | Wellness Day: university is open but no classes are held and no assignments or assessments are due. |
Thursday, April 15 | Wellness Day: university is open but no classes are held and no assignments or assessments are due. |
Monday, May 3 | Reading Day: university is open but no classes are held and no assignments or assessments are due. |
Tuesday-Friday, May 4-7 | Final Exams |
Fri., May 7 at 7:30 p.m. | Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony for College of Business, Education, and the Arts |
Sat., May 8 at 9:00 a.m. | Graduate Commencement Ceremony |
Sat., May 8 at 7:30 p.m. | Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony for College & Mathematics, and Nursing & Health Sciences |
These revisions to the calendar apply only to our face-to-face programs. Please note that fully online programs may continue to follow the original calendar, at the option of the program:

Final Exam Schedule Spring 2021
Those faculty teaching face-to-face classes whose classroom space can accommodate all students should be able to offer in-person examinations (unless conditions change). The final exam schedule for spring 2021 is available at https://www.valdosta.edu/academics/registrar/documents/spring-2021-final-exam-schedule.pdf.
Those faculty teaching HyFlex courses in which all students cannot be seated in the classroom at the same time or those faculty teaching fully online or hybrid courses could offer online final exams. They should still adhere to the schedule above and follow the Faculty Guidelines and Best Practices for Using Proctored Examinations.
