VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University recently honored Erin McDill of Woodbine, Georgia, with its 2024 College of Nursing and Health Sciences Distinguished Alumna of the Year Award.
"This honor inspires me to continue to advance the field of exercise physiology and elevate the importance of the profession in various capacities within healthcare, encouraging others to understand the capabilities of exercise physiologists in both clinical and non-clinical roles,” she said. “I am humbled to receive this honor among many other well deserving recipients and will continue to represent VSU and the exercise physiology program in a positive manner.”
McDill earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology in 2008.
VSU: What are some highlights from your Valdosta State experience?
MCDILL: Reflecting on my four years at VSU brings a whirlwind of so many wonderful, unforgettable memories, from sharing the campus with my older brother to joining Zeta Tau Alpha and forging lifelong friendships throughout all stages of life. Being selected as a Gamma Chi allowed me to guide new members through their Greek Life journey, while my time as a Red Hot, despite the late-night practices, are fond memories. As an orientation leader, I had the opportunity to be the “first impression of VSU” and connect with incoming students and their families. Walking across the stage at graduation marked the end of a culmination of the most incredible four years of growth, determination, friendship, and more memories than I can count.
VSU: Tell us how you currently spend your time.
MCDILL: I currently reside in Woodbine with my husband, two sons (ages 7 and 4), and Sadler the Goldendoodle. We enjoy being out on the boat doing anything and everything on/around the water, spending time with family, traveling, baseball games, volunteering at my son’s school, and taking part in all the activities having two busy boys brings. I currently serve as client success director over the southeast region for CareATC, an employer-sponsored healthcare company. Outside of work and family, I am actively involved in the Zeta Tau Alpha Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter and as a sustainer with the Junior League of Jacksonville. I also serve as an appointed board member on the Camden County Board of Health, as well as Parent Council member for a local elementary school and Steering Committee member for the Camden County Board of Education. Additionally, I am a member of the Advisory Board for the Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology program at VSU under the direction of Dr. Mark Kasper.
VSU: What advice do you have for current Valdosta State students? What do you wish someone had told you when you were in college?
MCDILL: My advice for current VSU students is to enjoy the best years of your life! Your experience at VSU is what you make of it, so make the most of it! Also, listen to your professors and the guidance they provide. They have a wealth of experience and knowledge and will push you because they know your potential. It may not be easy, but it is worth it.
