VSU Continuing Education Invites Everyone to Learn Something New

VALDOSTA -- Realizing that spring is a good time for renewal and change, Valdosta State University Continuing Education encourages South Georgians to expand their mind and learn something new.

On Thursday, April 19, VSU Continuing Education will offer Using Merge in Microsoft Word. Students will learn how to use the mail merge feature to create nametags, personalized letters, roster forms, and much more. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is recommended. This class will meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The cost is $29. A total of 0.2 continuing education units can be earned.

On Thursday, April 26, VSU Continuing Education will offer Linking and Embedding Excel Objects. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., students will learn to use data from an Excel spreadsheet without having to type it all over again. They will also discover the difference between linking and embedding objects and how they can use these features to import whole files into a PowerPoint slide or other document. Basic proficiency in Excel is recommended. The cost is $29. A total of 0.2 continuing education units can be earned.

On Monday, April 30, VSU Continuing Education will kick off Introduction to Adobe Lightroom. In this class, students will learn how to create the perfect look for the raw images they shoot with precise white balance control, exposure modification, the use of filters, sharpening and lens correction tools, and more. Some experience with digital editing software is recommended. This class will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on three Mondays through May 14. The cost is $99. A total of 0.6 continuing education units can be earned.

All those interested in taking a personal enrichment class at VSU are encouraged to register early to avoid additional fees.

Classes will be canceled three days prior to start dates if, at that time, there is not sufficient enrollment to cover costs, noted Continuing Education staff members.

All classes will meet in the Regional Center for Continuing Education, located at 903 N. Patterson St., unless otherwise noted in the course description.

VSU Continuing Education’s mission is to enhance the quality of life in the region by providing educational, artistic, cultural, technological, and economic development activities and programs. It works to develop and present programs and activities for professional and personal enrichment of community persons.

Among the many professional development classes being offered this spring is Grant Writing: The Rest of the Story. This class will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 21. Students will learn how to determine if they and their organization are appropriate candidates for grant funding and the steps necessary to prepare themselves to actually begin writing. The cost is $75. A total of 0.5 continuing education units can be earned.
