VSU Football is Pretty in Pink

VALDOSTA -- Zeta Tau Alpha, a women’s fraternity at Valdosta State University, has partnered with the university’s athletic department to promote breast cancer awareness and education during the Blazer football game against Southern Arkansas at 7 p.m. on Sept. 24 at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.

“We are excited to host the fourth annual football pink-out event with the athletic department at VSU. It will also be Parents Weekend for the university, so we anticipate being able to reach a large crowd of Blazer fans to promote breast cancer awareness,” Shaheen Gilani, co-chair of this year’s event, said. “With a rate of 1 in every 8 women developing breast cancer, almost everyone knows someone that has been diagnosed with this cancer. We hope to continue to raise awareness about the importance of early detection through self-examinations, annual check-ups and regular mammograms.”

ZTA will have pink ribbons available for everyone to wear at the game as well as literature and other pink decorations around the VSU campus. Fans are encouraged to wear pink attire, and Gilani noted that even the university’s mascot, Blaze, will be adorned in pink.

Admission to the game is free for all VSU students and military personnel, and the general admission tickets available at the gate are $10. For more information about ZTA’s service in the Valdosta community, visit www.vsuzta.org.
