Valdosta State CAN Do

VALDOSTA -- Blazer Dining will host a weeklong canned food drive Nov. 9-13 to benefit Second Harvest of South Georgia’s Valdosta Food bank. A variety of other events -- such as a student organization can challenge -- are also planned to inspire donations throughout the week. Although all cans are appreciated, preferred food items include: beans, soup, fruit, instant formula, tuna, evaporated milk, chili and peanut butter.

Nov. 9-13

CANNED FOOD DRIVE
Bring canned and other non-perishable foods to any Campus Dining location, including Sustella and Langdale markets.

HEARTS FOR HUNGER
Purchase and sign a $1 heart of gold at any Campus Dining location. Each dollar raised will provide six meals at an area food bank.

EIGHT -- LUNCH ON US

Sodexo, VSU’s food service provider, is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the largest food drive by a non-charitable organization in a 24-hour period. VSU’s goal is to collect more than 5,000 pounds of food on Nov. 12. Anyone who brings eight cans to Palms Dining Center between 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. will receive a free lunch at the facility.

CAN CHALLENGE
Student organizations are encouraged to gather cans to compete for the Can Challenge Competition. The group that weighs in with the heaviest donation will win a $250 catering gift certificate. Second place will receive a $100 catering gift certificate. Organizations interested in competing should bring their donations between 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. behind Hopper Dining Center.
