VSU's SIFE team places in top four of national competition

Valdosta State University's Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) was named third runner-up in the Radio Shack SIFE National Competition, in the four-year division, at the 2002 SIFE USA National Exposition, in Kansas City, Mo.

From an initial field of 772 American college teams, 158 regional champion teams traveled to Kansas City for the competition May 12?14. Each team presented a 24-minute multi-media presentation that highlighted the outreach programs developed and implemented throughout the year to educate people about entrepreneurship, financial responsibility, ethics and how to succeed in a free market economy.

The students were judged by more than 750 of the nation's top business leaders on how well they taught others the principles of free enterprise, and how well they have equipped others with the tools necessary for success.

?Not only did VSU's SIFE get the benefit from finishing in the final four, the Valdosta community received the benefits of the recognition and the programs that they conducted throughout the year,? said Dr. Wayne Plumly, VSU professor and SIFE adviser.

Plumly said this year's ranking represents the first time a SIFE team from Georgia has advanced to final four at the national level.
