Support/ Therapy Groups: Spring 2016

Groups are open to students, they meet weekly and they are ongoing throughout the semester. For more information about group counseling including what to expect from your experience please see Support Group Information. Love Your Selfie

This group is specifically designed for women who are experiencing low self-confidence in themselves or in social situations.  Some of the topics will include:  building self-confidence, building healthy relationships, using positive self-talk, learning to encourage yourself and others, learning how not to compare yourself to others and being assertive.  If you’d like to participate, you MUST sign-up in advance by contacting The Counseling Center at (229) 333-5940.  Ms. Rebecca Smith, Licensed Professional Counselor, facilitates this group.  Group meeting date will be determined for Spring semester. 

Keep Calm And Carry On

This group is for both men and women who are struggling with stress, anxiety and worry.  Some of the topics will include:  learning how to calm your body, managing stress, improving self-talk and being present in the moment.  If you’d like to participate, you MUST sign-up in advance by contacting The Counseling Center at (229) 333-5940.  Ms. Heidi O'Connor, Licensed Associate Professional Counselor, facilitates this group.  Group meeting date will be determined for Spring semester. 

Metamorphosis

This group is specifically for any students who are interested in expressing themselves and their feelings through a creative medium.  Some of the topics will include: discovering personal values, clarifying emotions and thoughts, appreciating differences and examining how others affect you.  If you'd like to participate, you MUST sign-up in advance by contacting The Counseling Center at (229) 333-5940.  Mr. Bradford Coleman, Licensed Associate Professional Counselor, facilitates this group.  Group meeting date will be determined for Spring semester. 

Men's Group

This group is specifically for men who are interested in exploring the stresses and challenges that men encounter on a daily basis.  Some of the topics include:  building trust, exploring strengths and weaknesses, relationships, sex and sexuality.  If you'd like to participate, you MUST sign-up in advance by contacting The Counseling Center at (229)333-5940.  Dr. Ryan Couillou, Licensed Psychologist, facilitates this group.  Group meeting date will be determined for Spring semester. 

Breathe

This confidential group provides a safe setting for men who have experienced sexual abuse or assault.  Group participants will gain from psycho-education about common responses to sexual trauma and be offered healing through peer support and coping skills.  Some of the topics will include:  understanding the impact of violence and trauma, male identity, exposing myths, and reducing shame.  If you'd like to participate, you MUST sign-up in advance by contacting The Counseling Center at (229) 333-5940.  Bradford Coleman, Licensed Associate Professional Counselor, facilitates this group.  Group meeting date will be determined for Spring semester. 

A Healing Journey for Women

This group facilitates a safe, nurturing and supportive environment for women to explore traumatic life experiences and gain greater understanding of self and the world around them.  Some of the topics include: learning more about trauma, exploring how trauma has impacted you and developing coping skills.  If you'd like to participate, you MUST sign-up in advance by contacting The Counseling Center at (229) 333-5940.  Dr. Tricia Hale, Licensed Professional Counselor and Holly Wright, Marriage and Family Therapist, facilitate this group.  Group meeting date will be determined for Spring semester. 

Breaking Free

This group is specifically designed for students with parents who suffer from alcoholism, gambling, or other addiction issues. In this group, you will gain an understanding of how to better cope with the stresses from home. Some of the topics include: learning how to let go of control, self-care, setting healthy boundaries, improving confidence, and building healthy relationships. If you'd like to participate, you MUST sign-up in advance by contacting The Counseling Center at (229) 333-5940.  Mark Williams, M.H.R., and Heidi O'Connor, Licensed Associate Professional Counselor, facilitate this group.  Group meeting date will be determined for Spring semester.
