Support/ Therapy Groups: Spring 2017

Groups are open to students, they meet weekly and they are ongoing throughout the semester. For more information about group counseling including what to expect from your experience please see Support Group Information. Love Your Selfie

This group is specifically designed for women who are experiencing low self-confidence in themselves or in social situations.  Some of the topics will include:  building self-confidence, building healthy relationships, using positive self-talk, learning to encourage yourself and others, learning how not to compare yourself to others and being assertive.  If you’d like to participate, you MUST sign-up in advance by contacting The Counseling Center at (229) 333-5940.  Ms. Rebecca Smith, Licensed Professional Counselor, facilitates this group.  Group meeting date will be determined for Spring semester. 

Keep Calm And Carry On

This group is for both men and women who are struggling with stress, anxiety and worry.  Some of the topics will include:  learning how to calm your body, managing stress, improving self-talk and being present in the moment.  If you’d like to participate, you MUST sign-up in advance by contacting The Counseling Center at (229) 333-5940.  Ms. Heidi O'Connor, Licensed Associate Professional Counselor, facilitates this group.  Group meeting date will be determined for Spring semester. 

Metamorphosis

This group is specifically for any students who are interested in expressing themselves and their feelings through a creative medium.  Some of the topics will include: discovering personal values, clarifying emotions and thoughts, appreciating differences and examining how others affect you.  If you'd like to participate, you MUST sign-up in advance by contacting The Counseling Center at (229) 333-5940.  Mr. Bradford Coleman, Licensed Associate Professional Counselor, facilitates this group.  Group meeting date will be determined for Spring semester. 

Men's Group

This group is specifically for men who are interested in exploring the stresses and challenges that men encounter on a daily basis.  Some of the topics include:  building trust, exploring strengths and weaknesses, relationships, sex and sexuality.  If you'd like to participate, you MUST sign-up in advance by contacting The Counseling Center at (229)333-5940.  Dr. Ryan Couillou, Licensed Psychologist, facilitates this group.  Group meeting date will be determined for Spring semester. 

Depression Group

This group is an on-going group offered through the Counseling Center. It is designed to offer a place of support, hope, and guidance for students with current or past depression. Techniques will be reviewed on how to apply acceptance and action-oriented strategies to manage depression and prevent relapse. Topics may include activity scheduling, value-based living, changing negative thoughts, learning acceptance, and relapse prevention.  If you'd like to participate, you MUST sign-up in advance by contacting The Counseling Center at (229)333-5940.  Dr. Ryan Couillou, Licensed Psychologist, facilitates this group.  Group meeting date will be determined for Spring semester. 

Self-Care 101

This group is focused on learning and maintaining activities to engage in on a regular basis that help to reduce stress and enhance overall health and well-being. Participating in this group will allow you to learn about the various areas of self-care, why they are important, and how to practically implement them in your daily life. Topics may include the following: learning how to incorporate exercise and diet into your lifestyle; sleep hygiene; and fostering and nurturing spiritual needs. If you would like to participate, you MUST sign-up in advance by contacting the Counseling Center at (229) 333.5940. Rebecca Schilling, B.A. & Samantha Hartman, B.S. facilitate this group. This group will meet on Thursdays at 10:00AM, starting February 9th, 2017. 

The Cycle Stops Here

Are you an over-comer?  Are you now or have you been impacted by a significant person in your life's  use of substances?  Share your story and learn from others in this co-ed group designed to provide support and education to students who identify as children of individuals living with substance abuse or addiction concerns. If you'd like to participate, you MUST sign-up in advance by contacting The Counseling Center at (229)333-5940.  Caitlin Connolly, Licensed Master Social Worker, and Mark Williams, MHR, facilitate this group.  Group meeting date will be determined for Spring semester. 

Horizon

This group is for those who want to learn from, support, and connect with students who balance career, parenting, disability, returning to school, or different life stage.  If you'd like to participate, you MUST sign-up in advance by contacting The Counseling Center at (229) 333-5940.  Mr. Bradford Coleman, Licensed Associate Professional Counselor, facilitates this group.  Group meeting date will be determined for Spring semester. 

Inclusion

This group is for people who identify as gender queer, gender non-conforming, or transgender. It is a safe place to discuss current issues regarding gender. If you’d like to participate, you MUST sign-up in advance by contacting The Counseling Center at (229) 333-5940.  Ms. Rebecca Smith, Licensed Professional Counselor, facilitates this group.  Group meeting date will be determined for Spring semester. 

Living On

Our grief support group provide a safe environment for you to look at your old beliefs about dealing with loss, which losses have affected your life, and take actions that will lead you to complete unresolved emotions that may still be causing you pain. If you'd like to participate, you MUST sign-up in advance by contacting The Counseling Center at (229) 333-5940.  Dr. Tricia Hale, Licensed Professional Counselor, facilitates this group. Group meeting date will be determined for Spring semester.
