WT arrived at VSU in the summer of 2012.  Previously, he had taught outdoor recreation leadership classes, lead trips, and managed ropes courses.  He received his PH. D in Leisure Management at Ole Miss and Master of Arts in Physical Education at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX specializing in outdoor education.  WT has lead outdoor trips canoeing the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (MN), Rio Grande (TX), & Everglades (FL).  His land adventures include the Grand Canyon (AZ), Smoky Mountains (NC), and 14ers (CO) plus bicycling in England, France, and Canada. He has also planned and managed challenge courses (TN & MS) and recently obtained his Wilderness First Responder Certification (SOLO @ NCO) and ACCT Challenge Course Practitioner Level 1 Certification.  At the recent AORE Conference in Utah, he was honored to receive the Jim Rennie Leadership Award and was on the editorial committee to publish the Proceedings. He is excited about helping to take CORE Outdoors to the next level for the students, faculty/staff, and community.



Jackie Kelly

Jackie arrived at VSU in the summer of 2014. She received her B.S. in Recreation Leadership at Delta State University in Cleveland, MS, where she played four years of collegiate soccer. She is pursuing her M. Ed in Higher Education Leadership. She has led several outdoor trips from backpacking, canoeing, biking, kayaking, and much more. Jackie has her Wilderness First Responder and ACCT Challenge Course Practioner Level 1 Certification. She is very passionate and excited to be working for CORE outdoors and looks forward to reaching out to the Valdosta campus and community.


Kyle Gaar

Graduate Assistant of Leadership Challenge Course

Kyle began his journey as a graduate assistant at VSU in July 2014. He received his BS in Recreation Leadership from Delta State University. Kyle has participated in recreation activities all over the globe such as hiking the Great Wall and backpacking in South China, rock climbing in Washington and Idaho, skiiing in Missouri, skydiving, and many more. He has also organized games and activities on mission trips both locally and internationally, along with assisting on trips while at Delta State. In addition to being an EMT-B and medic in the Army National Guard, he just completed ACCT Challenge Course Practitoner Level 1 Certification.  During his time at VSU, he will be pursuing his Master of Public Administration.  Kyle is extremely pumped about serving the Valdosta State community and growing CORE into one of the best Outdoor Recreation programs in the Southeast. ​Ya'll come join him in the fun!
