    BBA

    Accounting is the language of business and essential to understanding and navigating U.S. and multinational business environments.  Accounting summarizes, analyzes and reports financial transactions.  The financial reporting communicates the company’s operations, financial position and cash flows (via audited financial statements) to external users/stakeholders (investors, government, lenders, etc.).  In contrast, managerial reporting is used within the business organization (management and cost accounting) to make informed operational decisions.  The majors develop communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.  Students work with technology, receive a broad business foundation, and an intensive education in the accounting discipline.  The curriculum prepares students for the CPA license and other accounting certifications (e.g., CMA, CIA, etc.).

  • American Sign Language and English Interpreting

    B.S.Ed.

    American Sign Language, a form of communication used primarily in deaf communities, is a language in which people use their hands and other body parts to converse without sound. The American Sign Language and English Interpreting program (ASL) at Valdosta State prepares students to interpret American Sign Language in a variety of settings. There is a high demand for qualified interpreters, who play a vital role in assisting those who are deaf and hard of hearing and serve a critical role in the educational system.

We offer the only Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the Nation and minor programs in Health Communication and Communication.

    We offer two emphases within the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Communication, Interpersonal Communication and Organizational Communication. Each of these programs offers you the opportunity to develop skills that employers are seeking and unable to find. According to National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), nine of the ten skills an employer looks for in new employees are communication related.

    Your communication degree will develop your skills in each of these areas along with an understanding of intercultural communication. So, you have selected a marketable degree that will give you flexibility in what you will choose to do..

    This program will start in Fall 2017.

    Public Relations is projected to be one of the top growth fields in the next fifteen years. The U.S. Department of Labor estimates that job opportunities for Public Relations specialists will grow by 12% between now and 2022. In addition, other public relations positions will see significant growth including Public Relations Managers (13%), Event Planners (33%), Promotions Managers (12%), and Market Research Analysists (32%). The Wall Street Journal reports an estimated 18,000 new positions were emerge for social media managers and content creation specials. You can be part of this trend.

    Our Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree in Public Relations is the only BFA program of its kind in the Nation and it prepares you to step into the workforce upon graduation to meet the needs of employers in Public Relations who are looking for skill and experience.

    There are many strong points to our program. Among them are strong faculty and student interactions. It is not unusual as you pass through the building and see faculty talking with students in offices or just chatting in the hall. Faculty are genuinely interested in what students are doing and their progress toward graduation.

    The Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education offers programs that lead to the Bachelor of Science in Education degree (B.S.Ed.) with a major in health and physical education.

    Degree programs in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education prepare students for professional careers in health and physical education (teacher education). The degree programs are designed to build concepts and skills appropriate for specific careers through a series of sequenced courses, field experiences, and internships. These concepts and skills include program planning, computer and other technology applications, social diversity and cultural pluralism, appreciation for individual differences, assessment, and professional ethics.

    The Bachelor of Science in Education degree (B.S.Ed.) with a major in health and physical education prepares students to teach health and physical education from prekindergarten through 12th grade (P-12). Upon successful completion of the degree program and posting a passing score on the GACE Content Assessment in the area of health and physical education, students are eligible for the T-4 (clear renewable) teaching certificate from the State of Georgia. Both the undergraduate and graduate teacher education programs are approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC).

    Interdisicplinary Studies is a program which allows you, the student, to be in control of designing your educational program. The degree, a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies, is comprised of three academic areas of emphasis (18 hours, 15 hours and 12 hours, respectively). You may choose from any discipline offered as a major or minor at VSU, with the exception of Education, Nursing and Interior Design.

    There are two Tracks for Interdisciplinary Studies:
    Track 1 is open to students who are active-duty military or who have been out of school for at least two years.
    Track 2 is open to all students with a minimum gpa of 2.5.

  • Special Education (Deaf and Hard of Hearing)

    B.S.Ed.

    The Department of Middle, Secondary, Reading, and Deaf Education offers a Bachelor of Science in Special Education-Deaf and Hard of Hearing (B.S.Ed) program of study at the undergraduate level that prepares pre-service teachers to work with students who are D/deaf or hard of hearing. By providing students with content knowledge and pedagogical skills, students graduate prepared to meet the diverse needs of this unique student population. This pre-professional degree (P – 12) is designed to provide graduates with competency in American Sign Language (ASL), as measured by an Intermediate rating or above on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI). This equips graduates with the skill set needed to communicate with students enrolled in schools for the deaf, as well as those served in resource rooms and general education settings.  During the last semester of their senior year students apply to the Graduate School for admission in the Master of Education-Deaf and Hard of Hearing (M. Ed. - 5 year) program.  This 5-year program culminates with a M.Ed. student who successfully completes the M.Ed. are recommend to PSC for certification.
