Interview Weekend

The Interview Weekend is a two-day event that allows prospective Higher Education Leadership graduate students the opportunity to visit campus, engage with faculty and current students, and to interview with multiple assistantship providers.  The 2014 event will be held Thursday-Friday, February 13-14, 2014.  **The registration deadline has been extended to February 10, 2014.**

On the first day (Thursday evening), prospective students have the opportunity to meet faculty, current students, and other prospective students at a social event hosted by HESA (Higher Education Student Association).

Friday morning includes introductions to our program’s curriculum, the assistantships offered at VSU, and our campus.  Prospective students will also have the opportunity to sign-up for additional Assistantship interviews.  Friday afternoon is dedicated to our Assistantship interview process (more information below).  

As a special perk, prospective students who attend The Interview Weekend will have their application fee waived!  Assistantship offers and conditional program acceptance will be offered mid- to late-February.


Schedule at a Glance

A more detailed schedule will be provided at registration.  Registration for the event will be open both Thursday afternoon (4:30 pm-5:30 pm) and Friday morning (8:00 am- 9:00 am).  Prospective Students arriving on Thursday are asked to arrive at Registration by 5:00 pm.  Registration will take place on the second floor of the CLT Building to the right as you exit the elevator (Curriculum, Leadership, & Technology Building; address below in the "Maps, Directions, and Parking" section).

Assistantship Descriptions

The link above includes a description of the various Assistantship opportunities that are currently available along with links to their sponsored offices.


Assistantship interviews will take place in 30-minute blocks on Friday afternoon, from 2:00 pm-5:00 pm.  Application materials will already be provided to Assistantship Providers; therefore, candidates do not need any special materials.

After interviews are complete, prospective students will be asked to rank-order their Assistantship preferences based upon their interview interactions and career goals.  While the program and Assistantship Providers cannot make any Assistantship guarantees, we strive to offer Assistantships to as many qualified prospective students as possible in areas that will encourage our students’ learning, growth, and career marketability.  The first round of Assistantship offers will be made mid- to late-February. 



A required portion of prospective students’ Interview Weekend registration requests candidates to rank-order the assistantship areas they are most interested in.  Prospective students also will submit registration materials (including a resume).  These materials are delivered to our Assistantship Providers, who also rank-order the prospective students they believe best qualify for their positions.  The Interview Weekend coordinators then compile these two lists (the prospective students’ and the Assistantship Providers’) to ensure that every student attending the event will have at least three Assistantship interviews.

Friday morning prospective students will have the opportunity to learn more about the various assistantships available and will have the opportunity to sign-up (based upon availability) for additional interviews beyond the ones you are pre-registered for.


We are happy to be able to provide overnight accommodations for prospective students traveling into Valdosta.  These accommodations have been graciously provided by our Office of Housing and Residence Life free of charge.  Overnight accommodations are available for Thursday, Friday, or both nights.   Prospective students should indicate if they would like accommodations in the registration process.
