Jason Cochran

Jason Cochran – Outstanding WED and ACED Undergraduate Student

Jason Cochran's home town is Lakeland, Florida. He currently resides in Arlington, Georgia. He has been married for 25 years to Susan. Jason and Susan have two children, a son named Brooks Cochran and a daughter named Kinsley Cochran. He works for Eaton Corporation. Jason states that "my time at Valdosta State University has been challenging, and very rewarding. My professors have been second to none and Valdosta State University is very fortunate to have them on staff. The professors cover the academic material and work to enhance the student with real life application of the lessons. What good is the academic if it cannot be applied in the very competitive world we live? All my professors work to build the individual student and better prepare them for the competitive world we all face in the global economy.

I would like to thank my family and friends for all their support and especially my wife Susan, because without her understanding and gentle kicks I would have never completed this adventure."

Carol Carter

Carol Carter – Outstanding Business Education Student

I am originally from Valdosta, but I moved to Echols County nine years ago. I still live there with my parents, Marty and Kathy Carter. I have two sisters, April Fountian and Morgan Carter. I currently work at Langdale Ford as scanning and deals clerk. I have had a wonderful experience earning my degree. All of my professors have been a great encouragement to me, and I will always appreciate the experience and knowledge I gained in ACED.

My future goals are to study and take other GACE exams to be certified in other subject areas. I plan to get my masters in Adult and Career Education. I am debating a doctorate, but I am not sure about that yet. I would like to thank my parents and sisters for their love and support the past five years. I also want to thank Dr. Ellis for encouraging me and not letting me give up. She has truly impacted my life, and I can never thank her enough!

Terry Barber

Dr. T. Lynn Barber – Outstanding ACED Doctoral Student

My home town is Manor, GA. I am the son of Harry and Ann Hughes of Manor and Terry Barber of Douglas, GA. I currently reside in Manor, GA. My wife name is Lori and two daughters, Courtney (age 13) and Colleen (age 8). I am employed at South Region Agriculture Education Director with Georgia Department of Education.

After several years of thinking about going back to school, I finally did it. I am so thankful that I chose to further my education at Valdosta State and more specifically in the ACED program. The ACED faculty is top-notch and connected with the trends and needs in adult and career/technical education. The combination of online classes and face-to-face sessions was the perfect scenario for me. In every class and assignment, I could see the real-world application.

As far as future goals, I plan to continue my work with the Georgia Department of Education for the foreseeable future. I do miss being a part of the local school system and may at some point look for an opportunity to serve on the local level. I am also interested in pursuing short-term mission projects to help with adult and vocational education projects in other countries.

I am truly grateful for all of my ACED professors. I would like to thank my committee members: Dr. Ellis, Dr. Willis, and Dr. Moore for their help and support. I am especially grateful to my advisor and committee chair, Dr. Martinez, for always pushing me towards the finish line and for his continual encouragement.
