Honors Luncheon

On April 18, 2012, the accounting faculty gathered to honor the best Accounting Principles students from the previous year.  Students were nominated by their professors.  The luncheon was hosted by the accounting and finance honor society Beta Alpha Psi.  The luncheon was sponsored by the GA Society of CPAs Educational Foundation, Packaging Corporation of America, Draffin & Tucker, LLP of Albany, Moore Stephens Tiller, LLC of Brunswick, Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC of Albany, Henderson & Goodbee, LLP, and Fowler Holley Rambo & Stalvey, PC both from Valdosta.

The purpose of the luncheon is twofold. First, the faculty want to let these student know how much we appreciate their hard work in the ACCT 2101 and 2102 classes.  All of these students earned a grade of A or B in their class.  Second, we want to educate the students about the opportunities available in the accounting profession.  The guest speakers explained their particular facet of the accounting profession and what they do on a daily basis.  Speakers are a combination of recent VSU graduates and experienced professionals.  Speakers represented industry, banking, health care, and public accounting.

Each student received a t-shirt when registering and a ticket for the drawing.  Beta Alpha Psi faculty advisor Dr. Ray Elson gave away $600 in Colonial Mall gift certificates ranging in value from $25 to $100.
