David Lee Johnson
Professor Emeritus - Voice
David Lee Johnson, after 23 years Director of Choral Activities at Valdosta State University, retired in June 2006 from full-time teaching. The Georgia State Board of Regents awarded him the title of Professor Emeritus that same year. Dr. Johnson teaches private voice at VSU and continues as President of the VSU Music Scholarship Alliance.
During his tenure at Valdosta State Dr. Johnson served as Interim Head of the Department of Music in 2006.
In January 2008 Dr. Johnson organized the Sine Nomine Singers of Valdosta. There are currently 33 singers in the group from our region that include Valdosta, Homerville, Waycross and Sylvester. There are no auditions - membership is by invitation only. Singers are selected on the basis of their musicianship, vocal ability, the desire to achieve excellence in choral singing and their interest in performing quality choral literature. The SNS perform three-four concerts during the year. Their first performance is on Tuesday February 3, 2015 for the First Tuesday Music Series at Abraham Baldwin College. Other concerts include a performance at the First United Methodist Church in Douglas and a performance at St. John Catholic Church on May 17. May 30-June 6, 2015 the SNS will engage in their third European tour to Scotland. Concerts will be given in St. Andrews, Crieff, and Edinburgh, Scotland. The SNS will perform in the historic St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh.
On August 3, 2014 Dr. Johnson retired as Director of Music at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Valdosta - a position he held for twenty-eight years. He currently resides in Valdosta with his wife Susan.
