WELCOME TO VOLUME 1 OF COLOR VSU

Our concept is simple; ColorVSU – An Adult/Artist Coloring Book designed by Valdosta State University students, current and emeritus faculty, and alumni. Many artists have been long time supporters of the VSU College of the Arts, the Department of Art & Design, and fundraising/ exhibition venues like the DRAWPROJECT, generously donating their precious time and creative work to support events that benefit VSU Art & Design Student Scholarships.

At VSU, we share a tremendous passion with the artists, sponsors, patrons and supporters of our local and extended community. Valdosta, VSU, and the surrounding region is an exemplar of how creative thinkers, passionate artists, and generous arts patrons and supporters truly enrich the place in which we live.

ColorVSU is a platform for our community to intimately connect with artists while personally experiencing the benefits of creative activity. Each page has been created by an artist at VSU or connected with VSU. We invite you to be a part of ColorVSU, and hope that you enjoy the creative works within this unique artistic book, and join us in celebrating Valdosta State University – and, make your mark.

YOUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT IN ACTION

The earnings from ColorVSU support scholarships within the Department of Art & Design, which provides financial assistance to students within the BA/BFA programs in Art, Art Education, and Interior Design. Your support is an enduring gift that positively affects our students, and immeasurably changes individual lives.

INSPIRATION FROM WITHIN

Color VSU is inspired by William Massey, 2012 VSU Alumni and recipient of the 2017 Valdosta State University “Graduate of the Last Decade” award (GOLD) – William founded ColorATL,
“a platform for the community of Atlanta to intimately connect with local art while experiencing the benefits of creative activity.”

William Massey is a freelance artist, sculptor, creative entrepreneur, and a co-leader of art programs within social organizations and health facilities throughout the city of Atlanta, GA. He initially found his voice through art during his time at Valdosta State University. He began his art career in Atlanta with outlets such as glassblowing, teaching art to homeless youth, and public art installations. He has gradually evolved into a force of creative connection in Atlanta, utilizing the power of art to unify communities, uplift public spaces, pursue social and racial reconciliation, and creatively comfort those in hardship.

DETAILS:

We are adamant about honoring artists in the creation of this publication.

  • The mission of ColorVSU is to support VSU art students through scholarships, and to provide artistic opportunities to people enduring or healing from some form of hardship – to foster growth, healing, hope and positivity.
  • While there are no specific subject matter parameters set for the artwork submitted – such as abstract, representational, pattern, etc., please consider the scope and purpose of the publication.
  • We trust you to exercise positive artistic judgment when creating your work and recommend that you avoid negative subject matter such as violence/death, extremely provocative imagery/graphic nudity, etc.

GUIDELINES:

  • The final print dimensions of the book / pages will be 9x12 inches, portrait orientation.
  • Your Artwork/Drawing can be whatever size you choose, as long as the proportions remain the same (3:4).
  • Previous works may be submitted as long as they follow the guidelines provide on this page.
  • The artwork will need to be black & white, vectorized (line art) before the book can be assembled and sent to the publisher. This means lines must be bold/distinguished, and the white background / paper must be clean.
  • Regarding line-work and design, studies show that adult coloring books are most effective, engaging, and therapeutic when the design includes tedious lines and details within a simpler overall composition/form.
  • If you have the computer experience and capability, we would appreciate receiving your artwork in black/white vector format sized to 9x12 inches. If you are unfamiliar with this process, our design team can assist. Please submit BOTH a pdf file and a vector file, if you have the means to do so. (Adobe Illustrator, etc.)
