The retirement walkway is a physical space located on the Valdosta State University campus between the Bailey Biology/Chemistry Building and West Hall. It is set aside to honor staff and faculty employees who have devoted many years of their life in service to the university. The walkway is composed of bricks with the names and years of service for each retired person. In the future, this area will include quiet sitting areas, garden areas and commemorative plaques.

This physical space is made possible by the contributions of many people. They include current employees, retired employees, friends and family of both. The Council on Staff Affairs administers a fund established in the VSU Foundation called the “VSU Retirement Walkway and Employee Recognition Fund”. Individuals may contribute a $50.00 donation to support the future expansion of the retirement placement of honor. As part of this donation, you may designate a name of a retired or deceased person whose name will be etched in a brick and placed in the walkway. You do not have to obligate your donation in the name of one retired employee. All contributions will work for the walkway expansion and maintenance!! The VSU Retirement Walkway Committee develops the guidelines and policies to manage retirement walkway issues. This group is a composite of currently employed faculty and staff.

Once a year at the annual retirement luncheon, new retirees receive a formal service recognition from the President of Valdosta State University.
