Oxford Scholarship Online Overview

E-book Database:  Oxford Scholarship Online or also known as University Press Scholarship Online

Oxford Account:  Not required, but with an Oxford account, you can take advantage of the following features:

  • View your “Most Recent” search activity on a tab
  • Save book titles and/or chapters to a “My Content” tab
  • Save search terms to a “My Searches” tab
  • Add personal tags
  • Create RSS feeds

Viewing:  Book chapters are in PDF and chapters may be read in the browser using the Adobe reader or other PDF reader plugin. Chapters may also be downloaded and printed.

Downloading:  You may download or print only a chapter at a time.   Oxford Scholarship Online does not intend for entire books to be downloaded and printed. The Oxford Scholarship Online privacy policy and legal notice explains how downloaded material maybe accessed and used, under the heading Subscribers.  Particular titles may have further download or print restrictions, found on the individual pages of that particular book.

Using Oxford e-Books as Course Reserve Materials:  Faculty are encouraged to assign Oxford e-books as textbooks for their courses.  There are no limits to the number of VSU students that can use Oxford e-books.  Persistent links to e-books and e-book chapters to be viewed and read can be embedded in in BlazeVIEW (D2L) or other online course materials.

Emailing:  You can email a persistent link to a book or chapter to yourself or share with others in the VSU community.  

Mobile:  Downloaded PDFs of book chapters can be read on devices that support PDFs, i.e. compatible with: Android®, Kindle®, Nook®, iPad®, iPhone, iPod Touch®, Bluefire Reader app.  Using the iBooks app, one may read PDFs on an iPad®, iPhone® and other Apple® devices by following these directions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4227.   The Adobe Reader app is freely available on the Android® Apps site.

Limit Search to Odum Library Purchased Titles:  Narrow your search choices to “Full Text” Availability as in the left hand column.  Currently Odum Library has purchased over 1,800 titles out of the 9,000 titles that have abstracts in Oxford Scholarship Online.
