Scope and Content:

The Art Department is a part of the College of the Arts. Its focus is visual arts, and has faculty and students who work in all media, from paint, to charcoal, to sculpture, to paper and metal and computer graphic arts. The Art department faculty is active in exhibitions of their own and student art and in bringing artists from other institutions to campus.

The Art Department collection includes general departmental information and memos dealing with matters from faculty searches to planning exhibits. The bulk of the collection is Exhibits posters. Box 2 features exhibition posters of student work, some faculty work, and programs involving invited artists arranged, where possible, chronologically from 1946 to the present. Faculty exhibitions, held annually for the combined faculty along with some specialized faculty exhibits, fall in the general period from the mid 1970's and 1980's. Featured faculty include Dr. William Martin, Irene Dodd, Lee Bennett, Ruth Kahler, Russell McRae, Joe Pember, and Don Penny. One folder is devoted to Valdosta State exhibitions of the work of Lamar Dodd. Publications in the Collection include a Fine Arts Dedication Program, Volumes 1 and 2 of The Arts Magazine.
