1. Submit the completed Graduate Faculty Application to the Department Head/Director of Division.

Application Deadlines:

Packets must be submitted to the Graduate School by:

  • September 14 for Fall 2013
  • February 14 for Spring 2014

2. If approved, the Department Head/Director of Division will write a memo recommending Graduate Faculty Status and forward the application and memo to the appropriate Academic Dean (or in the case of Divisions, will forward to the Dean of the Graduate School).

In any case, the Department Head should provide written notification to the faculty member and the Dean of the Academic College/Division about the disposition of the faculty member's nomination and any recommendations.  The Dean of the Academic College or Division Director will forward the recommendations to the Dean of the Graduate School.

4. The Graduate Faculty Membership Committee (a sub-committee of the Graduate Executive Committee) reviews the nominations and makes a recommendation to the Graduate School Executive Committee.

5. The Graduate School Executive Committee reviews the recommendations of the membership committee and votes to approve/disapprove the recommendations.

6. The Dean of the Graduate School makes the final decision to approve or deny each nomination to Full or Associate Membership on the Graduate Faculty.

7. The Dean of the Graduate School notifies the faculty member/nominee, the faculty member's department head, and the Vice President for Academic Affairs about the final disposition of each nomination.

*Except for those ex-officio appointments required by statutes, all other Temporary appointments are recommended by the faculty member's Department Head/Director of the Division and must be approved by the Dean of the Graduate School and the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
