VSU provides many entertainment and social opportunities for students. The University Center on Patterson Street is the center of student life. It contains a "food court" with small restaurants, a movie theatre, a game room, and a recreation center. The Sports Recreation Center provides indoor swimming, a rock climbing wall, and several exercise facilities.

Various agencies on campus sponsor recreational programs as well:

The Society for International Students (SIS) provides a social haven for the 200 plus international students at Valdosta State University. Members of this club organize trips, movie nights, cookouts, pool nights, parties, meetings with community based volunteer organizations, and service activities. SIS members are involved in a variety of projects like VSUHomecoming, International Education Week, and (our largest event) the Annual International Dinner. (Descriptions of these activities are provided below.) The International Dinner is the capstone event for foreign students at VSU. Every year since 1976, the students have organized an international buffet and a variety show for the Valdosta community. You are encouraged to join SIS! 

  • International Education Week

    International Education Week takes place in November and provides an opportunity to promote and celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. Activities each day are organized by continent. You can participate in the International Education Week by displaying boards and items from your country or performing. You can share your language, culture, food, and customs at this special event.

  • International Dinner 

    The International Dinner is a cultural learning experience that transcends the dishes served and the entertainment presented. The dinner theater style evening showcases many dishes, dances, songs, and fashion from the participating countries.You can participate in this event by cooking a dish, performing, or wearing y our traditional clothing.

The Campus Activities Board publishes a calendar of special events such as parties, movies, and quest lectures. (Visit the calendar provided on the Campus Activities Board website to see the activities organized for the month that interests you.)

The Office of Intramurals and Recreation organizes sports and fitness programs for students.

The Student Government Association coordinates programs for students.

The Office of Housing and Residence Life provides programming within the residence hall. See your residence assistant for details.

The Office of Student Life organizes co-curricular activities that include Volunteer services, Greek life, Campus Activity Board, and Student Government Association.

For more information on clubs and activities, read the campus newspaper, "The Spectator," listen to the campus radio station WVVS 90.0 FM. Also plan to attend The Happening, a campus-wide activities fair that takes place during early Fall semester. The VSU Student Handbook contains a list of all clubs at VSU.

Shopping

Discount Stores

These are department stores where you find a large variety of items including clothing, medicine, small appliances, paper products, some furniture, and linens. They often have lower prices and can be wonderful places to see American people and products. Some discount stores include Wal-Mart, Target, and Dollar General.

The Valdosta Mall

Valdosta Mall is a shopping center housing many stores and some restaurants. The VSU bus will take you to the Mall every Thursday and Saturday at 2:00 and at 4:00. Prices in the Mall are generally higher than prices in a discount store.

Outlet Mall

This is a large mall containing only manufacturer's stores. There is a large outlet mall with over 100 stores 12 miles south of Valdosta on Interstate 75. Prices here are low and quality is high.

Entertainment

Wild Adventures

Wild Adventures, located on 3766 Old Clyattville Rd Valdosta, GA 31601, is a family theme park. Movie Theaters

GTC Valdosta Stadium 16 is located on 1700 Norman Drive. GTC Ashley 8Cinema is located on 2812 North Ashley Street and includes discount tickets.
