Rock Group - Dr. Mark Groszos, associate professor of geology in the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Geosciences, studies how rocks tell the story of the Earth’s history. With a mission to enhance instruction of this subject in public schools, Groszos led a group of teachers on a statewide excursion reinforcing basic geologic concepts in July 2012.
Star Attraction - Valdosta State's 47-seat planetarium is equipped with a Digitarium Kappa digital projector, the first of its kind in the world. With this facility, planetarium staff can reproduce the night sky as seen from anywhere on Earth or from the surface of any object in the solar system, and at any time in history, past or future. The VSU Planetarium serves as a valuable teaching tool and as a facility for an extensive public outreach program. Astronomy majors give planetarium shows for thousands of visiting school children and members of nonprofit civic organizations.
VSU Softball Team Recognized in Parade of Champions - The City of Valdosta and Lowndes County hosted a parade of champions on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013 to recognize three Valdosta State University NCAA Division II national championship teams. The parade featured coaches, players and staff from Valdosta State's 2011 men's tennis team, 2012 softball team, and 2012 football team, will start at 4 p.m. in front of Mathis Auditorium, travel south down Patterson Street and conclude at Drexel Park.
