VSU's College of Arts and Sciences Kicks off Annual Speaker Series with "Understanding Islam" Sept. 20

VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University's College of Arts and Sciences kicks off its annual Speaker Series with "Understanding Islam" at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20, in the Hugh C. Bailey Science Center Auditorium.

Faculty, staff, students, retirees, alumni, and friends of the university are welcome to attend.

A panel of experts — Dr. Cristobal Serran-Pagan y Fuentes from the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at VSU; Dr. Babacar Mboup and Mariya Chakir from the Department of Modern and Classical Languages at VSU; Dr. Mouyyed Hassouna from the Division of History and Social Sciences at Tallahassee Community College; and Dr. R. Kirby Godsey, chancellor of Mercer University and author of several books, including "Is God a Christian?" — will examine Islam from historical, cultural, and gender-based perspectives.
