VALDOSTA – Katherine Younker is Valdosta State University’s 2016 College of Nursing and Health Sciences Outstanding Senior Sciences Award recipient.

“I am overwhelmed with excitement that I have been chosen for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences Outstanding Senior Sciences Award,” said the daughter of Shane and Patty Younker of Villa Rica. “I have always been dedicated to doing well in school, and it is awesome to see that all of the hard work I have put in for the last four years has paid off.”

The Outstanding Senior Sciences Award is presented to the graduating student with the highest grade point average in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences who demonstrates leadership capabilities and an initiative in clinical and classroom settings and is active in both on- and off-campus activities.

As a student at VSU, Younker was a regular on the Dean’s List, served as treasurer and fundraising chairwoman for the Athletic Training Student Association, and received the Spring 2016 President’s Award for Academic Excellence.

Younker is scheduled to receive a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training at VSU’s 221st commencement ceremony at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 7.

She plans to continue her education in graduate school.
