VSU Campus Wellness Hosts Take Heart Event Feb. 22

VALDOSTA – The Valdosta State University Campus Wellness Committee will promote American Heart Month by hosting Take Heart on Monday, Feb. 22, in the Student Union Ballrooms.

Free health information and screenings for blood pressure, body mass index, glucose, and cholesterol will be offered to all faculty, staff, and students beginning at 10 a.m. This will be followed by a heart healthy luncheon and panel discussion from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost for lunch is $5 per person.

The Take Heart panel will include Reggie Donaldson, executive chef, and dietitians, all from South Georgia Medical Center; Dr. Ryan Couilliou, training coordinator in The Counseling Center; and Dr. Dharini Bhammer and Dr. Serina McEntire, assistant professors of exercise physiology in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Donaldson will give a cooking demonstration while dieticians from SGMC explain the benefits of maintaining a balanced, heart healthy nutrition. Couilliou, Bhammer, and McEntire will share their expert advice on general heart health, including information on determining risk factors and how to prevent and manage cardiovascular disease. They will also demonstrate heart healthy exercises.
