SUCCESS Mentors Presents Community Career Planning and Financial Aid Workshop

VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University’s Students Uniting Change with Commitment through Empowering Strong Service (SUCCESS) Mentors has partnered with Lowndes Middle School to host a Career Planning and Financial Aid Workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at River Street Church of Christ, 619 River St.

Admission is free of charge and open to the public. Lunch will be provided. The deadline to register is Wednesday, Nov. 4.

“This…is an informational-based workshop,” said Brandon Mainer, club adviser. “We plan to speak on the areas of career planning, testing tips and study habits, the process for applying to college, the process of financial aid, and creating…and learning to manage a budget from their journey as a student to their journey in a career.”

The Career Planning and Financial Aid Workshop will include representatives from the Office of Financial Aid; Yvonne Landers, associate to the vice president in the Office for Finance and Administration; Derrick Carter, senior secretary in the African American Studies Program; and Mainer, who works as a staff auditor in the Office of Internal Audits.

Mainer and Carter collaborated with Jackie Crawford, assistant principal at Lowndes Middle School, to plan this event.
