VSU Hosts Read Fest on Front Lawn April 17

VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University’s Odum Library and Student Council of the International Reading Association will host Read Fest 2015 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, April 17, on the West Hall front lawn.

Michael Holt, reference librarian and an assistant professor at the library, noted that more than 275 prekindergarten students from area schools are scheduled to attend the ninth annual event. The children will spend the morning participating in a variety of activities, including puppet shows, games, crafts, read-along stories, coloring, and music.

“The purpose of the event is to promote literacy in our community through getting children excited about reading at an early age,” Holt said.

Read Fest is part of the university’s celebration of National Library Week, April 12-18.
