VSU’s WebMBA Program Earns High Rankings

Jessica Walker, who earned an MBA from VSU in  2012, valued the flexibility of an online MBA program that allowed her to balance career and family.

VALDOSTA—The Georgia WebMBA, the online Master of Business Administration program offered by Valdosta State University and five other members of the University System of Georgia, was ranked No. 10 among the CEO Magazine’s Global MBA rankings.

CEO Magazine assessed MBA programs worldwide and ranked the schools based on key performance indicators—international diversity, class sizes, student work experience, faculty-to-student ratios, and faculty qualifications—that are considered to be of interest and value to potential students.

In addition to its designation by CEO Magazine, the Georgia WebMBA was ranked No. 17 by Nonprofit Colleges Online, which examined the affordability, accreditation, and nonprofit status of online MBA programs across the U.S.

VSU’s Langdale College of Business Administration (LCOBA) joined the Georgia WebMBA consortium in 2001 with one cohort of approximately 40 students. The program has since expanded to four cohorts each fall and spring semesters, maintaining an average of 40 students per cohort.

Designed for working adults, VSU’s WebMBA provides flexibility and affordability for professionals seeking an MBA.

“One of the most frequent comments we receive is about the program’s flexibility,” said Dr. Mel Schnake, LCOBA graduate program director. “We have had military folks get deployed and were able to continue in the program. Similarly, we’ve had students get a job transfer or promotion, even out of the country, and they were still able to complete the program.”

Jessica Walker, a professional vaccine specialist with Sanofi Pasteur, said VSU’s online MBA program allowed her the opportunity to further her education while balancing career and family.

“The MBA online program allowed me the flexibility to travel with my job while still completing all assignments and tests for the courses,” said Walker, who earned an MBA from Valdosta State University in 2012. “An online program also granted me precious time in the evenings to complete my duties as a mother before switching roles to a student.”

The Georgia WebMBA is offered through six University System of Georgia (USG) institutions: Columbus State University, Georgia College and State University, Georgia Southern University, Kennesaw State University, Valdosta State University, and the University of West Georgia.

To participate in the Georgia WebMBA, students must have a bachelor’s degree and at least two years of professional business experience. The curriculum consists of 10 courses focused on areas of business, including accounting, strategic marketing, and entrepreneurship. The 30-hour, non-thesis program is designed to be completed in five consecutive semesters. Courses are taught by full-time graduate faculty from the USG institutions associated with the Georgia WebMBA program.
