Blazer Football Team to Host Blood Drive Feb. 10

VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University’s Blazer football team will host a blood drive from noon until 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10, in the Student Union Ballroom.

“This is an annual competition between the offensive and defensive lines to see which side can get the most people to donate blood,” said Claire Bowen, account manager for the Georgia-South District of the American Red Cross. “The goal is to collect 350 units of blood; however, we hope to get closer to 400 units at this drive.”

Bowen stressed that all blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.

“Donating blood takes about an hour of your time and could help save up to three lives,” said Bowen. “I challenge VSU to roll up a sleeve and give blood at our upcoming drive.”

Potential donors must present one form of identification at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds, and are in general good health may be eligible to donate blood.

Doners will receive a T-shirt while supplies last. Appointments can be made online at www.redcrossblood.org and using the sponsor code VSU or calling 1-800-733-2767.

For more information, call Claire Bowen at 229-241-1141 or email at claire.bowen@redcross.org.
