Weather Advisory from Lowndes County Emergency Management Agency

VALDOSTA -- According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, the Lowndes County area is expected to experience a hard freeze Wednesday (Jan.7) and Thursday (Jan.8). No precipitation is expected and freezing conditions on roads and bridges is not anticipated. However, people are cautioned to use care when driving as water may accumulate on roads due to irrigation systems, busted pipes, etc., which could leave standing water on roads and sidewalks.

Temperatures are expected to fall to 23 degrees tonight (Jan. 7) and with wind chills the temperature is estimated at a low of 13 degrees. These low temperatures can create a dangerous situation for people, pets, and plants that are outside and exposed to the harsh temperatures.

The Lowndes County Emergency Management Agency cautions area residents to protect exposed pipes, and bring pets and plants indoors. In addition, people should use extreme caution when using electric or gas space heaters. Make sure to keep them away from furniture, curtains, and other combustible materials. Do not leave these appliances unattended or left on when leaving your home or office.
