Thomas Kevin Carter Named Employee of the Semester

VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University named Master Certified Plumber Thomas Kevin Carter as its Spring 2013 Employee of the Semester. Carter works in the office of Physical Plant and Facilities Planning, which provides timely and professional services to the campus including utility systems, road and ground maintenance, building maintenance and custodial services.

Carter was nominated for the recognition by three university staff members. He was described by those who nominated him as a “dedicated worker who takes it upon himself to work all plumbing calls, even on nights and weekends.” Carter also took it upon himself to get his master certification and is currently the only master certified plumber at the university.

Runner-ups for Employee of the Semester were Lisa Harken, library assistant for Odum Library, and Lisa Snipes, administrative coordinator for University Police.

As part of the circulation team, Harken works as a night shift library assistant who is said to go “above and beyond to ensure the best operation of the library.” Snipe was nominated by Scott Doner, director of university police because of her commitment in making sure that things flow smoothly within the department.

Other nominees include: Beverly Amiot, Dan Coody, Ashley Crowe, Bobby Flowers, Sandra Griffin, Donna Jones, Susan Jones, Yvonne LeRoy-Landers, Tomica Reynolds, Blanche Thomas, Katrina Whitmore and Courtney Wilkes.

“These employees exemplify the values of Valdosta State,” said Dr. Denise Bogart, director of human resources and employee development. “They are chosen based on criteria that include innovative ideas, team effort, problem solving and customer service.”

VSU’s Council on Staff Affairs presents the Employee of the Semester Award at the end of every fall and spring semester. All full-time classified staff employees are eligible for the award.
