Exercise is Medicine Symposium April 20

VALDOSTA -- Valdosta State University’s Exercise Physiology Club will host the Exercise is Medicine Symposium beginning at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, in Jennett Hall, Room 1111.

The Exercise is Medicine Initiative launched in November 2007 by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the American Medical Association (AMA). The initiative is committed to the belief that exercise and physical activity are integral in the prevention and treatment of diseases and should be assessed as part of medical care and integrated into every primary care office visit.

Schedule of Events:

8:15 a.m.:  Exercise is Medicine

9 a.m.:  Diabetes & Exercise
Dr. Jarod Bailey, D.O.

9:45 a.m.: Heart Disease & Exercise
Dr. Sid Staton, M.D.

10:30 a.m.:  Exercise & Pregnancy
Stacy Reid, MSN, FNP, CNM

12:30 p.m.:  Exercise Guidelines for Children
Dr. Jennifer Madon, M.D.

1:15 p.m.:  Mental Health
Dr. Craig E. Bishop, D.O.

2 p.m.:  Nutrition for Exercise & Weight Loss
Dr. Max Shute, Ph.D.

The event fee is $10 and includes a T-shirt. The registration deadline is April 12. Late and on-site registration is $15. Morning and afternoon refreshments will be provided.
