Workshop Provides Professional Development for Area Science Teachers

VALDOSTA – A workshop for area science and chemistry teachers will be held at Valdosta State University Saturday, April 13. Hosted by the Department of Chemistry and the Southwest Georgia Section of the American Chemical Society, the event will take place on the third floor of the Bailey Science Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The workshop will provide creative instructional techniques for those who teach fifth through 12th grade science or chemistry. During the workshop, participants will complete several activities and view demonstrations. Activities will focus on ways to enhance student interest in science education. Teachers who participate will also receive free science kits.

Guest speaker for the event is Dr. Nobert J. Pienta, professor and director of general chemistry instruction at the University of Georgia and editor-in-chief of Journal of Chemical Education.
