Bassoonist Scott Pool Performs at VSU March 3

VALDOSTA — Dr. Scott Pool will return to Valdosta State University for a special guest performance at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, in Whitehead Auditorium.

From 2002 to 2009, Pool was as an associate professor in VSU’s Department of Music. The bassoonist now serves as an assistant professor at the University of Texas at Arlington.   

Accompanied by Dr. Joshua Kelley Pifer, a lecturer in piano at Auburn University, Pool will perform six musical selections. The concert is free and open to the public.

Pool earned a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music, both in bassoon performance, from the University of Oklahoma. He earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in bassoon performance from the University of Arizona.

Pool has been the resident bassoonist at the Orfeo International Music Festival in Vipiteno, Italy, since 2009.  He previously served as principal bassoon with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, the Albany Symphony Orchestra, and the Savannah Symphony Orchestra.  

Whitehead Auditorium is located on the first floor of the VSU Fine Arts Building, at the intersection of Brookwood Drive and Oak Street.
